Castlevania: Symphony of the Night had a spectacular soundtrack. I think really any of the Castlevania series games had pretty decent soundtracks. Also, obviously the FF games were going to make it on here, but I think FF tactics had an amazing soundtrack, and the quality of wavetable or whatever it was they used, was ahead of it's time for a psx game.

Castlevania music managed to be awesome even on the NES. It took the playstation to allow people to experience it in its full glory.

I love the music from Maniac Mansion. I can't even think about it without it getting stuck in my head for hours. Particularly Razor's and Dave's songs.

Maniac Mansion was not meant to have music. It loses the atmosphere.

I know, but that does not stop it from being catchy as hell. And I grew up with the NES version, so it holds the nostalgia for me.

Holy crap.

Some of the songs I recognized:

Hare Hare Yukai from The Misanthropy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Something Sailor Fuku from Lucky Star
The theme to Dr. Wily's Stage 1 in Mega Man 2

I have about 4 versions of the Wiley's Castle theme. It's a fucking awesome piece on electric guitar.

I'm going to try to veer away from the obvious choices here.

Street Fighter III 3rd Strike
Motor Toon Grand Prix
Mystical Ninja (N64)
Donkey Kong Country 2
Super Castlevania IV

The first 3 choices are pretty obscure but I hope someone out there can agree with me. Has anyone else ever played Motor Toon?

I think 3rd Strike's music is pretty forgettable, but I love the music from Street Fighter II.

I'm a big fan of video game music. I've got Castlevania soundtracks, Tekken 3, Final Fantasy soundtracks, Advent Rising, LOTS of stuff on my computer. I love the stuff. It's the forgotten masterpieces of this age.

My favorites would be...

Tekken 3 and Moonlit Wilderness from Tekken 5
Advent Rising (awesome all around)
Mega Man music
Castlevania, the original horror tracks from "Heart of Fire" to "Bloody Tears"
Zelda 1-3, Ocarina of Time (insert what has already been said)
Double Dragon, specifically up until Double Dragon 2.
Final Fantasy, particularly 3(6) and 7.
Metroid, Kraid's stage
Blaster Master, great stuff here
Star Tropics, dungeon theme
Chrono Trigger, pure master work
Soul Caliber, originally panned for it's "sweeping epic music". Yeah, so what?
Turtles In Time (Neon Night Riders, Bury My Shell at Wounded Knee, Alleycat Blues, etc.)
Onimusha 2, really creates the atmosphere of the game
Street Fighter 2, original tracks, they remind me of days gone by where I'd beat older kids in the arcade
Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2, before the revival. There's some GOLD here.
Lemmings, if you've played it you know
Actraiser, Bloodpool, among other tracks
TMNT: The Arcade Game, awesome. Brings back memories and great music
Contra and the Contra on the SNES, again atmosphere music. Graphics are only a piece to bringing you there
Super Mario Kart, Rainbow Road. One of the best tracks the series has ever produced.

I'm sure I've got more, but this is an area I love and like to think I know a lot about Smile

RIP Hacker

Alexz Johnson

Awshum, a video game music thread! Music is a big interest of mine, so I usually look forward to the music in games.

I have tons of favorites, let's see...
The entire Megaman franchise(up to X5) has sweet music, I have tons of remixes and such. I also liked Megaman Command Mission.
Theme from Secret of Mana, just absolutely beautiful.
Lufia music is good, especially that one tune when you're in those white-colored chapels.
Some of Super Mario RPG's music is good, the final boss tune is my favorite.
The Guilty Gear series, Metal=excellence.
Castlevania music is good, but to me, none is better than Curse of Darkness.
Metal Slug 4, 5, and 6.
Shadowrun.
Legend of Zelda series is good, Ocarina of Time is on top for me.
Paper Mario 1 and 2, especially their final bosses.
Contra 3.
Illusion of Gaia.
Out of this World.
Demon Crest.

I'll think of more.

I want you all to repeat after me:

I AM
SOFA KING
WE TODD ED

Now, your turn.*SNICKER*

This Is A Joke

Cause it wasn't a US released title or an actual cartridge?

Final Fantasy IV: The Red Wings
Final Fantasy IV: Boss Battle
Final Fantasy IV: Golbez Clad in Dark
Final Fantasy IV: The Dreadful Fight
Final Fantasy IV: Within the Giant
Final Fantasy IV: Zeromus

These are pretty much my favorite tracks from Final Fantasy IV.

And here's a good one from the Video Game Pianist, Martin Leung

I think the ending is the best.

And who doesn't love a little Contra?
