I don't want to get into the details, but to make a long story short, I had a (very vaguely) inappropriate picture on my Facebook profile, and I got nailed on it by - a potential supervisor!
Now first of all, here's my question: I'm not up on exactly how Facebook works, but - can't only my "FRIENDS" see my pictures if I have it set that way?
So. You guys got any Facebook (or other networking site) horror stories?
I'm hoping this blows over real fast...

I've heard of employers doing this, but I don't see how they'd be able to view your pictures unless you're friends with them or on the same network

No matter how you slice it, it's still fucking bullshit. Whatever company you work for does not OWN you. What you do on your free time should not be their concern, unless it inadvertently effects your performance at work, which in any case would be grounds for termination. Of course you always have the option of leaving the company because we have the freedom to do so, but I'm sick of this company mentality that they own their employees.
I personally don't have a facebook or myspace just because any of my friends I care about, I see around anyway. I suppose if I had friends that had moved or whatever, I would consider it. I feel like having too much personal info available to anybody that wants it is a bit creepy, even though I know i'm petty insignificant and nobody would care anyways... it's still weird to me. I know you can set your accounts to private, but look what happened.. you set yours to that and your company still found out somehow.

I agree with everything you say here. Just a note, though - I don't actually think I'm in trouble. I don't think so. But I'll keep you updated.

I agree, bosses and such keeping track of your Myspace/Facebook is bullcrap. I have a Myspace to keep up with old friends, but I only have a Facebook to keep up with Postsecret.

Rachel Ray IS a terrorist. was the pic your default picture? My supervisor at my current job looked through the "History" and found my myspace page. At the time of his looking my name was Orgasmo, he then proceeded to show all his superiors and fellow supervisors thinking it would be funny. Now whenever I see any of them they say "Hey Orgasmo!", fucking horrible. Glad it's blocked now, bastards.

 That's hilarious.
Is, what is it, Mr. Hungry Hungry Hippos any better?
I don't have facebook, thank god, and no horror has come to me from my Myspace page...... yet.

It's Hungry Hungry Hippo King, GET IT RIGHT!
There's a traumatic back story to that name.

I just also wanted to add: there are only two possibilities here:
EITHER:
1) The person in question who found the Facebook picture REALLY put some effort into searching me out; or
2) Some so-called 'friend' of mine turned me in.
Possibility 1) bothers me because it makes me feel like you would feel if you discovered you had a stalker. It feels like someone took a picture of me while I was asleep, without me knowing, and then sent it to me. Like my privacy has totally been invaded.
Possibility 2) would bother me even more, though. Nobody hates me that I know of. I can't even imagine anyone disliking me to this extent. But what if someone secretly does? Who is it, and why? What is their problem?

I'm always careful what I put on Facebook for a number of reasons, mostly as far as pictures are concerned. I keep everything hidden though unless someone is my friend, all the same.
I've more or less abandoned my Myspace page; I only occasionally log in to Myspace and haven't updated my page in over a year.

Okay, I've just received relieving news on this; I know how and what exactly happened and I'm not in trouble. I guess it goes to show, though, that sometimes if you're gonna be weird, you have to do it in private or face the social consequences. And it also goes to show that some people are WAAYYYYY too uptight.
(And don't get me started on a rant here, 'cause I could go on and on, but you know what? Socially ostracizing a behaviour - any behaviour - doesn't prevent people from engaging in it. It just drives it underground. Grrr.
Anyway. 'Nite, folks... I'll sleep well now. )

For shits and giggles, can you show us the picture?

That pic is actually a still shot from a movie I helped my friend with. I was supposed to be a fortune teller, but I totally looked like a terrorist.

Your boss could have created a fake account within one of your networks for the sole purpose of viewing your pictures. But Facebook has additional privacy settings that can prevent everyone but your friends from seeing your pictures.

LOL. It would be more offensive if you put something like "SHALALALALA JIHAD JIHAD" in the caption (if there is one).
Once, on MySpace, a friend of mine had a couple pics on her page where she was posing and such in front of the granddad's dead body at a funeral. I don't have them (but she did show me.) Anyway, the pics got so "popular" that Tom forced her to remove 'em.

I'd be way too scared to share my myspace. Someone would find out where I live, stalk me, next thing I know I'd have him jerking off at my window. :/
