I was fucking around with my Wii this morning and I managed to get internet for it. I don't have a computer in my house.
(I live in the ghetto I'm lucky I have a T.V. I go to someone elses house to use the computer I just wrote that sentence to.)
Either way I have the internet for my Wii on a wireless connection, do you think it's legal?

I'm so bananas I'm showing up to your open casket,
to fill it up with explosive gases,
and close it back,
with a lit match in it,
while I sit back, and just hope it catches.
Blow you to fragments,
laugh,
roll you, and smoke the ashes.

You're probably stealing it from someone.

Your just using a signal from someone that doesn't have a lock on there router. It happens at my apartment but its hardly reliable.

True but I live in a Town house and the signal is strong so chances are that the signal is coming from directly behind the wall where my Wii is.

Ummm . . . i cannot get around how wrong and awesome that statement is at the same time.
As for the connection, I had a similar happening with my computer only everyone else's signal was too weak to hold for 5 minutes. As an evil gamer, i'd say "don't tell anyone" but if your really want that internet legally maybe whomever your getting the signal from wouldn't mind letting you use it if you splitting the bill. although you have mention you live in the ghetto so maybe that last idea might not be a good idea.

As long as they don't cancel their service or put a WPA/WEP password on it I wouldn't say shit.

well, if you know your neighbors, then i dont think it should be a big deal.
if you dont know your neighbors, you should probably just let go and let god. if they realize that someone is piggybacking off their signal, then they would probably just turn the firewall on their modem. more than likely, they wont realize it.

Cable wasn't included in our apartment. I was about to call about getting it. But my father in law told me just to hook it up and see if any of the local channels came in. So I did hook it up...70 channels...never paid a dime. Its been almost a year now. I don't know if the people who lived here previously stole it or what.

Same thing happened at the old apartment, however my Plasma doesn't have a coax in the back for Cable so I was never able to check, but the cable guy was like, well that was easy your Cable has been on this whole time. SONUVA.

If "stealing" internet is illegal:
1. I wouldn't be on now.
2. I would've been arrested 3 years ago.
I think you got nothing to worry about.

Is it illegal? Probably.
Would it hold up in court? Probably not.

If they're not smart enough to password their shit, then they're basically asking for it.

Here's an article on arstechnica that mentions a few cases where people have been arrested for leeching off somebody's WiFi. In all cases people were sitting in a car in front of the building though. Unless those who set up the WiFi know how to check their router for connected clients they'll probably not notice you using it. And seeing how they didn't encrypt the WiFi they probably don't. It's still not exactly legal though.

My landlord and I share the internet. I doubt it's illegal. But when I had my Wii hooked up to the internet through my computer, the computer would have a box come up telling me the Wii was on the internet. So they most likely know.

Fuckit, Steal away, and if they do lock you out, well you would need a computer to hack that, but in the meantime, stay online with the Wii, make Mii's and be happy
