BTW, there is also a live action Akira in the works, thoughts?

I can't imagine the live action being great. The story works well in an anime/manga format, and I can't imagine it being any good live action. Personally, I thought Akira was an outstanding movie, and I don't see how remaking it live-action would bring anything better to the table. I think the greats should be left alone, and the people who remake them either have huge ego's thinking they can improve on a classic, or the more likely scenario is that they don't care and want to make a quick buck off an already popular title. Also Leonardo DiCaprio is supposed to be involved, and i don't see how he could possibly fit into that story.

What i mean was there was an 89 and a 2004. Neither had anything to do with each other as won't the one coming out in a year ot two.

If you're talking about Punisher: War Zone, that's coming out this year, leaving only 4 years in between the two reboots. That's even less than the 5 years between the two Hulk movies.

This is one of the most unfocused, yet fairly on track, threads I've ever read. There's about five different threads worth of material here, but too little on the Short Circuit remake.

I believe they picked up SC because of Wall-E. Wall-E looks like Johnny Five and so far is proving that people like cute robots. To cash in on that craze isn't a bad idea.

By the way, that is how Hollywood works: Cashing in on crazes. Speed Racer, GI Joe all following Transformers' mega success.

This industry isn't about ideas, it's about money. Brands get people to go. Hulk? I'll go. Short Circuit Reboot? I'll go. Easy money. There's no morality about whether we "should" do it or not. It's about is there an audience?

Speed Racer? No. It was too small a niche.

Sex & The City? X-Files? We'll see. While I can't wait for X-Files 2, I do fear it might walk away with a significant drop of profit than the first movie made. Sad

Short Circuit, Fletch Won, what's next? Caddyshack 3? Karate Kid After Next? A 5th Nerds movie? A remake of Ghostbusters with Will Ferrell, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn? Oh, wait. I got one. How about a new Young Guns movie...that isn't even about Billy the Kid.

Next they'll probably make a sequel for Home Alone without Macaulay Culkin...what...they already did that?...Two of them?...

Or how about a Turbo Teen movie using a mix of live action and CGI to represent the kid. Or a movie version of The Honeymooners using black people...oh...they did that too?

I'd rather just split it, but it doesn't bother me so much to do so. Confused

Anyway, they're remaking Child's Play so inanimate objects that come to life must be the new craze.

And Short Circuit 2 is BADASS!!! Twisted Evil
