Overrated:
Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. The only funny thing in this movie was the Neil Patrick Harris cameo because it was so unexpected. Other than that, I thought it was all borderline retarded. I know that was the point, but maybe I'm getting older- I just don't find two dipshits smoking and riding a tiger funny.
The Matrix: Revolutions: I know most people already acknowledge that it sucked, but I still feel the need to proclaim its shittiness at every opportunity. That said, I kinda liked Reloaded. The twins were badass.
Rocky I: Fuck this one. Give me Drago or Clubber Lang for entertainment purposes.
Underrated:
The Rules of Attraction: I'm the only person I know of that legitimately likes this movie. I think it's brilliant (as is the book). Was pegged as a comedy, but it's definitely not funny... it's actually pretty depressing, showing the death of romance and how people use other people for their own purposes, especially in college. It's a bit of a unsettling watch.
Mirrormask: Just watch it. It's like the Cell, but without J-Lo and with a better plot.
Once: If you like quality music (Coldplayish) and a simple story, this is your movie.
Teen Wolf: I once wore #42 in a hockey league simply because it was Scott Howard/Teen Wolf's number on his basketball team. Good clean, family, 80s fun. Oh, and Boof was mad hot.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it

Apollo 13 was pretty big when it came out. Speaking of which, Gary Sinise is awesome.

All my freinds think Lady In the Water was a good movie, I personally find it boring and gay.

M. Night Shyamalan in general is overrated. Creepy ambience and beautiful cinematography can't make up for a dumb story.

| Gump is a good movie, but I always resented it because it helped launch Tom Hanks career as a major box office draw. Before Forest Gump and Philadelphia, Hanks was just some douchebag who starred in utter tripe like Bachelor Party, The Man With One Red Shoe, Joe vs. The Volcano, and The Money Pit. Then suddenly everyone he gets a few good roles and everyone loves his wooden acting. |
Well besides Gump and Castaway I cant remember him being in any other movies, which adds up with your point. |
saving private ryan which was awesome. Big as well was awesome. I liked Forrest Gump a lot so i cant really complain about Tom Hanks.

this movie is definitely not overrated. its funny. has sports. romance. the ultimate cinderella story.

| And that reminds me of another underrated movie: THX-1138, George Lucas' first feature film. It's one of the best science fiction movies, but it rarely gets mention for it. It's also a rare case of a special edition with added special effects being better than the original. |
im still unsure about this one. dont know if i like it or not. its definitely a trippy movie though.

I thought The Departed was highly overrated. I missed it in theaters and everyone hyped it up as one of the best movies to come out in such a long time blah blah, so like an idiot, I rushed out and bought the most expensive edition dvd on the day it came out. Wow, what a letdown that was. It took me like 3 attempts to even make it through the whole thing because it was so long and drawn out, I kept assing out. Only the ending was cool imo.
Saving Private Ryan and Blackhawk Down were also pretty overrated to me, but I'm not a big fan of war movies to begin with.

QFT.
I hope The Happening is a little better than the last few have been. God, Lady in the Water was lame.

I stopped watching M. Night's movies after seeing The Village. God, what a waste of time that movie was. I was so pissed at the ending.

Big is indeed awesome. But it has deeply troubling philisophical issues in it. I mean, that lady had sex with a little kid and she didn't go to jail.

I agree. I've seen 3 or 4 of his movies, and didn't like any of them.
I liked the first half of "The Village." I thought it was a pretty good horror movie up until the inevitable plot twist, which sucked all the awesomeness out of it.

I don't know if it would be considered underrated, but I had no expectations for it: Super Troopers. This movie did not interest me in the least, then I happened to catch it on one of the movie channels, and it was pretty funny. Movies rarely exceed my expectations, especially comedies.

Rocky I is classic.
M. Night Shamalan's films are all the same, or nearly all the same. There's always a circle of main characters, theres some force or aliens, sometimes they have a weakness (like water in signs), but other than that, every movie of his hasnt even been worth watching.
Tom Hanks was wonderful in the Terminal.

This is a random aside, but Shut up, Dorn... your screen name/handle makes me laugh every time I read it.
I can't help but hear Lou Brown say it in my head.

Well I may be in an even vaster minority, because I think Rocky V was underrated.
I'm not even totally sure why people hate on it so much. I think it had a pretty good underlying meaning and all that. The worst thing about it was Adrian's constant bitching.

I think I probably hate on it because of the lack of a boxing match finale. The street fight scene took away from the entire Rocky idea for me. And yes... Adrian is the wet blanket queen. Especially in that one.

I liked Apollo 13 a lot. I watched it again and realised Sinise was in it, and then got pissed off when he didn't go on the shuttle. He did save the day, so I guess that's ok.
Overrated: Just about every movie my friends watch. So Hitman, everyone I know thinks it's amazing but it's not. It's better than most games turned movies but it's just not that great.
Underrated: 10 Rillington Place. No one seems to have ever fucking heard of this movie, but it is fucking great. It's about British serial killer john christie(NOT the guy that makes cookies). If you like that thing, this is for you. Great atmosphere and mood, and you will be more creeped out by it long after you've seen it.
Fuck you, Waynes World is underrated, though Tia Carrere almost ruins it. I don't care what you say, she is not that attractive and she did not add to the movie in any positive way.

Regarding Henry - Quite possibly the only Harrison Ford film that ranks right up there with Indiana Jones. This is a timeless classic drama that brought me to tears. Make fun of me and I will eat your children. Hopefully someone on here has seen it. Just check it out. |
Right on!!
And Jake Lloyd goes to my old school! Alumni represent!!!
Edit: And less controversial, "Dolores Claiborne" is a Stephen King film that I feel often gets ignored by people. I adore it. Because so few people talk about it, I think I hold it at that much higher regard. It is fabulously adapted and even better acted. It's the kind of movie I wouldn't normally like or even be interested in, but I find it engaging and highly rewatchable. Whenever I'm flipping through channels and I see it on, I have to watch the rest.

I definitely agree as far as Episode I is concerned. The final fight with Darth Maul was worth it alone. I don't understand why people hate on that movie so much. If you can enjoy Return of the Jedi despite those Ewoks, you should be able to stomach Jar Jar Binks.

that darth maul fight is the only redeeming factor of the movie.
the pod racing wasnt too bad, but it was a little long.
and the ewoks only showed up for a small amount of screen time instead of the WHOLE FREAKING movie.

I like all the movies. I probably like episode III the best followed by II then I. But I like all of them. Just not as much as the original trilogy, for obvious reasons.
