Ok, so I myself prefer FF3, but I want your guys opinion. Make your points, and mock my judgement if you must.

Final Fantasy VII definitely rocked my world, and it's inclusion of lots of mini-games (chocobo racing, breeding, gold saucer) definitely helped its longevity. The backgrounds were awsome, but I think sacrificing disc space with all the FMV's, meanwhile making the characters themselves look terrible, even for 1997 standards was a dumb move. Also I found the game to be pretty easy to beat, even when I was 14.

Final Fantasy 3 rocked my world a little harder. I actually didn't play it till 1995 or so, and when I did I was sucked in from the get go. The story was tremendous, the music was unforgettable (techno chocobo anyone?) and the characters actually evolved, compared to most cliche' RPG's of the day. It did lack the replayabilty of FFVII but mostly because the game was so goddamn hard and it lacked the time passing minigames.

I like both games alot, but I love a challenge, and Final Fantasy 3 was definitely more of a challenge for my jaded RPG lovin' heart.

ff3 more diverse and a larger cast of pcs. after a certain point its alot les linear too.

ff7 better story line due to line limitations in the game and more mini games. also more variations on what you could do with each character.

ive been at the point where i realize every game is pretty much different. when you get passed the skins and the packaging(using the same summons and same spells et) they just slap the ff name on it.

FF7

Had Cloud... relatable, adn likealby chracter.... talked smack, looked tough, and had the ability to back it up...

Had a fairly powerful enemy, that looked Bad@ss, especially the whole walking through the flames...

Story line, not overly detailed, but gave you a sense of direction, and a cause to rally behind (Saving the planet, from these capitalist pigs), had a soft spoken dansel in distress Aeria..

Had a killer final move for just the main character, namely Omni-slash..

Had a nice character cast, vincent was cool, yufie was just a fun character, tifa was fiesty (but overally not too appealing to me), Barret, he's a big black guy, come on, he was cool (even though i'm pretty sure he's the only black guy in that entire game, so i'm not really sure where he came from), also you had vincent, a guy who could turn into monsters...

The game play was fun.. had the ultimate weapons for people who wanted to own it up (which i was one person who did kill all of them")

Was revolutionary in it's step for graphics, if you look at other games on the PS they pale in comparison, and for the time it was released, if you measure other games that were out at the exact same day or before, they also pale in comparison.

They had that fun thign with the whole tricking that guy into cloud was a girl, and if you did it well enough, you could get him to pick cloud as the girl he wanted for the night.

While i think the whole cloud memory thing was wack, and couldn't tell you all the details of the story, the central theme, and combative nature of two rivals cloud and sephiroth was awesome..

Sephiroth killed that snake in the water... and later on you can come back and kill it...

Also the mini-games aside from the fun side quests, such as yufie side qeust of beating all teh guys in that tower (which i did at a ridiculously low level with yuffie, excersing pretty good play, and in fact someitme just taking a gamble on luck winning or losing depending on what my oppenent does) were awesome... I liked the motorcylce game, adn snow boarding game, i wish some of the others would have been more developed.... but meh.. Also the arena was a really cool idea, ilike how they basically adopted a similar system in FF9, with the deadly creatures you can face... in that one guys shop..

I really wish they allowed for away to save Aeria(sp), it was cool they allowed for a way to get her final smah, lol, her final limit break, if you really wanted to, i kind of wish i didn't use her so much, in my play through, becuase i didn't know she died... anyway was a great game, innovative, good character cast, and original...

I'm sure there have been better games sense then, but from the persepctive of what game was the best overal, when including originalty and all that.. I think ff7 ranks vey high, since many games just stole from it, or got their ideas from it, even if they did just comparing the games, did make a better game... Ff7 was a venturous step, and that what makes it so great.

FF3 has such a special place in my heart, it came out when I was at that perfect age. Even though FFVII is a great game, I still get goosebumps when I hear that flute play the overworld theme while traversing the game. FF3 aerlso has the best cast of characters in basically any FF game, Cyan and Locke are the shit. In fact Cyan is so the shit, that I named "Frog" from Chrono Trigger "Cyan" upon my first playthrough, and still do it anytime I have replayed the game since. FF3 wins, and I will never recognize the game as FFVI.

I actually think VI has aged better than VII. Personally, I think VI is the best game in the series, but my personal favorite is IV.

I always refered to the SNES games as II and III too, until they actually started to release the the other games (II, V, and eventually III) from japan. Now if I don't call them IV and VI, I get confused.

FF3 had a story and music that really sucked me in. The music was always top notch(Under Martial Law, Battle Theme, The Veldt, etc.) and the story kept getting more interesting. The Scenarios were an awesome touch. It was long. The fastest completion time I've ever read was 8 hours. The game was thoroughly thought out. Especially with creature types. Ever killed the Phantom Train with a Fenix Down? "Know Thy Enemy" has neverb een more truer than with FF3.

FF7 was also an incredible game. The difficulty was definitely lower compared to FF3 but that didn't seem to matter. Memorable characters like Cloud, Tifa, and Sephiroth have really stood the test of time. This game is so popular it's got 2 spin-offs and a CG movie. I really like the music too. "City of the Ancients" is one of my favorite tracks EVER. Maybe because I spent so long running around that area trying to figure out what to do next Razz

I really can't pick a favorite of these 2. I'm currently playing through FF3 again, just because.

FFVI is what every child should play for a study in RPG school course.

Yes it is that good Very Happy

I think, FFVII started the Emo generation somehow, now that I think about how Cloud is "clouded" in his mind(pun!). That's probably why I didn't like it so much.

Both incredible in their respective features, but I'd gonna take it to FFVI,

Not only is FF6 better than FF7 when you compare them side by side, but the way that 6 pushed the limit of its hardware capabilities is one of the things that I find most impressive about the game.

Even more annoying than the death of Aeris in FF7 is the death of Tellah in FF4. Everyone in FF4 who makes some sort of sacrifice ends up surviving except for Tellah and his NPC daughter Anna.

Yang locks himself in a tower and activates the self-destruct sequence. He survives.
Cid leaps from an airship and detonates a handheld bomb midair. He survives.
Meanwhile, Tellah casts a high level spell. He dies.

WHAT THE FUCK!?

What makes it even worse is that later in the game other characters cast the exact same spell without any damage to their lifeforce.

I prefer FF3. More of a nostalgia factor for me. I only played through FF7 once when I borrowed the PC version from someone. My parents would only buy me one console per generation growing up and I went with N64 over Playstation.

What pisses me off is that when you get FuSoYa, who would be almost close enough to Tellah to take away some of the frustration, you only get him for like 5 seconds. But I guess once Rydia is a high enough level, it doesn't matter anymore.

But I agree. Tellah got hosed.

Heh, Tellah got hosed. Man, that really doesn't make sense.

Okay, I already wanted to play FF3 when I got zsnes up, and this thread just triplefied that want tenfold! I checked the one site I got all my others from, and nothing.-_- I'll search around, though.

Anyway, well....I've never played FF3 myself, and I've only gotten some short distance in FF7(past the chocobo race, but can't remember after that), I never owned that game. I gotta say FF7 is indeed lots of fun. Memorable characters, nice looking battles and FMVs, and a very in-depth story that acts like a vacuum. I'd like to beat it someday if I can.

Basically, I'm autolisting on FF7's side, but only because I have yet to play FF3. When I get that game, though, I'll dive right into it. Valdronius's poem made it sound so beautiful!

I want you all to repeat after me:
