Beer Pong: Frat Party Games!

Quote:
Beer pong is one of the weirder recent trends in party games since the out-of-nowhere resurgence of poker, at least as seen through the eyes of someone who isn't currently in college. Now JVGames has announced their intention to translate the drunk version of Bozo the Clown's "Grand Prize Game" to WiiWare. We read the press release and started to reach for the picardfacepalm.jpg, but then we went to the website and were presented with an unexpected hilarity bomb.

Let's just say that the website (screenshot above) doesn't really scream professionalism. Blurry, blown-up beer glasses with choppy filling animations, and a 3D logo that looks like it was rendered in a DS homebrew program. It actually makes us kind of love it. Beer Pong: Frat Party Games will be out in June.

Honestly, what's the point?

That might be fun as a free flash game, but only a fucking idiot would pay money for it. Beirut is only good when there's sobriety at stake.

The point is that this is a casual game, and I really wish people would stop completely writing them off, yeah they're shitty as far as games go but they do something more important than just being a game itself.

I don't know about you guys but I don't spend all of my time hanging out with professional gamers who are ready to play 4 hours worth of brawl. I have friends who don't play games and aren't even worth trying to introduce certain games to.

Not everyone has the interest to play a game and get really good at it. Guilty Gear for example is way too high concept for someone to just walk into.

I can get my girlfriend to play 3 video games. Bowling, Mario 3 (which is sad because she's actually good at it but I can't get her to try other old nes platformers) And Octomania. Octomania fucking baffles me, I've tried to get some of my other gaming friends into it and they just can't get the basics down, whereas she and I learned how to play together and she's my only actual competition in it.

But for anything else she flat out refuses to play. I tried mario kart, nothing, I tried old vc games, nothing, I tried other puzzle games like Octomania, nothing.

She loves beer pong, she's really good at it, I saw this today and I knew instantly we had another game we could play together. When I told her about it she asked if she could buy it for us today.

This is what casual games are for, compromising. I can't get you to play brawl with me? Fine, let's play Beer pong on wii and get hammered.

You raise an interesting point. There's no reason you can't introduce alcohol into the equation. If you do, it could actually be fun. It'd be like real beer pong without the setup and potential messes.

I love that idea. As long as it's not a Japanese Beirut Game. I hate jBGs. Bell

I had no idea what Beer Pong was before this thread and I was seriously amazed by the detail and effort put into the Wikipedia article about it. I also found lots of other drinking games on there I didn't know about. Thank you, Wikipedia, I'll never have to be sober again.

i agree only as long as people drink. cause if you dont drink when you play beer pong, then there's no purpose.

whats next wii quarters? wii shots? all it is is wii tennis with cups at the other end. the whole point of beer pong is to get hammered. if they come out with wii oral sex are you gonna get your woman to get that too? id much rather have the real thing. im all for casual games but there is a point where enough is enough. if i have enough people to play wii beer pong were gonna play real beer pong. its much funner. and has a point.

thats how i felt, but syd had a decent point in terms of cleaning up and setting up the beer pong table. thats a pain and im lazy. so w/this game, i can just get the keg and play on the wii and still have the same rules.

for beer pong a friend of mine just has one set up all the time. but its not the setup. its the general idea. wii keg stand? wii bod shots? wii frat party? wii date rape? some stuff you just have to experience your self. maybe not wii date rape. so youd better not go to that frat party.

once again, the mods get lazy.

anyways, when these do called "casual games" are coming out for 30, 40, and sometimes 50 or 60 dollars, this entire argument goes to hell.

I'd much rather clean up some spilled beer than worry about my three hundred dollar gaming system or whatever kind of TV I have being fucked up.

i can agree w/that statement. the general idea is pretty fucking stupid (a game about drinking?! how is that fun?!) but like i mentioned, it only really works when you drink alongside the game itself. otherwise, its fucking pointless.

I can understand the appeal of casual games, but frat games are really something to be experienced yourself. Not vicariously through a Mii.

I see what you're saying, but the point is that if we delete the word you used, then we might have to delete a sentence of something offensive. Then a paragraph. The fact is that you obviously know you didn't have to use the language you did and you chose to use it anyway, which in a way invalidates any point you were trying to make. Basically, you were being an asshole for the sake of being an asshole.

Usually if you are generally dismissive there's a good reason, and it's to make a point. This time is was for the sole purpose of being a douchebag. We're not here to edit your posts; we're here to decide if what you post breaks the forum rules that Syd put up. A derogatory and intentionally flame-worthy word, even if it's a small part of your post, is grounds for deletion because it's done with malice. It's not up to us to figure out what your intention or mood is; it's to regulate the forums so that one word doesn't turn into a 10- to 15-word rebuttal and then into a flame war.

Not that you don't know this already, but I'm not seeing the point of starting an argument with a mod over something you know was wrong. There wasn't "pissiness" until you complained about being modded.

Back on topic, I'd much rather play beirut in person because it keeps the social interaction in tact, which I thought was supposed to be the point of drinking games. Drinking by oneself while online with others seems really dumb. Having said that, if a person really feels like setting up the table/throwing a party is too much work then more power to them. I personally would only play this game if it were free and only once, just to try it.

everyone gets a die. everyone rolls. lowest number drinks. repeat. easiest/laziest drinking game ever. and gets you f'd up asap

I sort of view this similar to video game versions of board games. It may be easier to setup and make less of a mess and all that, but it's just not going to provide for the same atmosphere/experience as the real thing. Also, judging from the developer's website and the fact it's going to be on Wiiware leads me to believe it's going to be some half assed crap. Anyway, you could make a drinking game out of just about any multiplayer video game if you get creative enough. I had some friends over the other weekend and we did this with Mario Kart of all things.

Yeah, I called the guy a retard to be an asshole, but taking the entire post down was done in malice as far as I'm concerned. removing one word, especially one added with a comma as an afterthought wouldn't have killed anyone. It's obviously much more satisfactory to make me have to type the rest of my ENTIRELY VALID AND WELL WRITTEN point over again. Either that or you're just really lazy.

If I made a huge post about how much I hate black people and want them to die or something, then yeah, I could see how deleting that would be a good idea, but I didn't. Removing that ONE word would have done just as well to stop said rebuttal and flamewar, and then you wouldn't have me bitching here because I had to retype from memory whatever I just posted. It's the job of the moderator, and even professional sites know to walk this line. If you're too incompetent/lazy/inconvenienced by this, then why the hell are you a moderator?

as far as I can see, the only reason any of you are mods is because you know the site's owner in real life. You guys are terrible. you can let so many other stupid things slide, and then something like the above, you jump on your saddle and moderate. When I have a legitimate concern with something, (like talking about killing the white devil) it's pretty much pished away as "well it's from a movie", yet I say the n-word (which is a slang term, not derogatory, used in tons of movies, songs, TELEVISION SHOWS, and god knows what else), I haven't heard anything about the ONLY black guy on the board being upset about the usage of the word, and it's modded immediately on the grounds of "any usage of a potentially offensive word, slang or otherwise is against policy." I honestly feel that most of the time it's only because *I* said it.

The easy thing to do would be to say "you're right, I didn't feel like dealing with any bullshit and just deleted the post when I saw the bad word. My bad, next time I'll just blank out the offensive parts." like an adult. but I don't see that happening.

Fuck, I'm pretty sure this entire rant will just be deleted because I used a bad word at the beginning of it.

I don't mean that harsh shit at you spanky.

upon rereading the above post, I can see you weren't taking the tone of "I'm a moderator and my dick is big, obey me." You seemed to try to legitimately address the concern that I had. It's just a very frustrating subject.
