It should have been Named Mario Kart BS.

No, not BS for Blue Shell.

Obviously making reference to the amount of SHIT that comes at you, especially in first place. POW blocks piss me off, Unless you hit a ramp at the right time...

You can minimize the impact of POWs by shaking the wheel right as it hits. Not sure how you do it on the other control schemes, but it's very easy to avoid once you know the timing. You still lose your items, but you won't spin out excessively. 150cc mirror mode is still a bitch, though. Also the game is way too demanding with it's unlockables. I still have 7 characters left to unlock. Getting star ratings on 150cc and above is pure luck.

yeah, you shake the wiimote up and down right at the third pound of the POW block to avoid losing momentum. you still bounce and lose your items but your forward momentum keeps going.

thats if you use the wiimote/nunchuck combo.

dont know how it is for the classic or gamecube controller.

Yea I use the classic controller, I can't do tricks with it either so I guess you pay for the easier controls.

On the gamecube controller you can do tricks using the d-pad, so I imagine it'd be the same on the classic controller...

Just Mario Kart Wii.

If you can win this game based on skill, then you fail at life due to the fact that you are lying.

Once you get to 150CC this game is about luck.

How is he wrong? He never stated the game was bad. Obviously he owns it. Or else he wouldnt complain. But yes from what i have heard from friends once your in the high class engines being in first is death. One of my friends stays in second til the end for a final push.

He didn't say it was bad explicitly, but he did admit that he was trashing, ergo assuming that he didn't like it is a reasonable assumption.

i would say its half luck and half skill once you get to 150cc. to get stars, yes, it is more luck than skill, but to win its 50/50.

i still like the game though.

But he indeed is right. Being in first place everyone behind you gets exactly what they need to blow you out of the way.

Agreed. I had no problem getting 1st place in all the cups and I've only used the wheel, which supposedly makes things harder, but whatever. I think the game is infinitely more fun using the wheel, but that's another topic. You do have to get pretty lucky to get stars on the higher levels. All in all, the game is a whole lot of fun though, especially online or with a few friends.

the rubberband AI has always been present in the series. It may be slightly more prominent in the wii version than say Mario Kart 64 because of the nature of some of the items, but cheating has always been a part of the computer's gameplan

kind of like the handicap feature in waverace 64. if you had it on, the player that was losing would have a higher top speed vs the guy who was winning, thus keeping the race close.

since mario kart doesnt have a handicap, the weapons themselves end up being the handicap.

I didn't say it was bad because I don't think it is bad.

I think that the movie Ed Wood was bad. I think Mario Kart Wii is not fine tuned well.

I think it is bullshit that the upper ranked races are not determined by skill. If the number of "big" items in the game was reduced by half I would be ecstatic.

Also I wish that VS mode locally didn't require that you play against 10 additional characters. No 1v1 sucks.

As far as liking or disliking it... I like 50 & 100cc as well as online play. I do not enjoy 150cc or Mirror Mode. Oh, and I have cleared 150cc, so its not like I didn't put in the time or effort. I just didn't enjoy it at all. I think I swore more at this game than any other game I have ever owned.

I was surprised by the high frequency of stuff like lightning bolts and blue shells in 50cc and 100cc. Also POW blocks are bullshit.

It seems that for me blue shells are most likely to hit right as I'm trying to make a jump, causing my ass to plunge into a pit.

But yeah this is still a great game and I love it.

i preferred the blue shell from MK64 because it would hit everyone on the way to 1st place.

I have a great idea.

How about for people in first place, one of the possible objects is a Franklin Badge.

It would stop the first person from having any offense or aggressive defense, but it would get them out of any projectiles Smile
