Okay guys and girl(s), here it is. The chance to brag, the chance to gloat, the chance to rub your challengers face in all that is your greatness.
The first official Sydlexia NES Championship!
Ground Rules:
1. This is a decathalon. 10 games, 10 rounds. You don't have to play in all of them.
2. Depending on how many people want to play in it will determine the points for each place.
3. A video must be submitted for score to be counted. If your emulator can not record there are numerous video capturing softwares available, free.
4. Please refrain from using cheats & save states, this isn't a contest to see who the best cheater is.
5. The game for the respective round will named at the start of the week.
If you have any questions please post them.
Syd and myself will decide the games to be played.

Well, then tell us. From your post I'm guessing that what you're going to do is to start a thread for each round in which people are supposed to post vids playing a certain game.
If that is correct and we don't have to play in each round, then I don't understand why we have to "sign up" at all. If somebody wants to partake in a round, they post a vid. If not, they don't. You can still determine the overall winner at the end.
Apart from that I think this a pretty cool idea.

They wouldn't be posting the vids on here but sending them to me via e-mail. I could post the winning video though. There won't be a seperate thread for each game. This thread would just be updated. I say that you don't have to play each week only because this is the summer and people go on vacations and leave for weeks at a time.
I would realistically like to know how many people are interested so I could set up a concrete point system, otherwise you could have chaos. For instance, if 10 people sign-up and then come round 2 we have 20 people, whoever won the first round would get the shaft because of the point differential. You still don't have to play each round but you automatically get the fewest points if you don't.

Sounds cool but I use Nestopia. I'm probably the only person here that uses that emulator. Otherwise I'd be game for some NES action.

So get it (Nester) or find a way to record it.

Use FRAPS.
And why can't we all post our own shit here with YouTube embedding?

I guess you could but who's honestly going to want to watch an "X"minute video of someone playing Pac-man. I think if anything there will just be an absurd amount of video's when there really doesn't need to be. The only one that really matters is whoever did the best.

I'm in.
As long as you use a program like fraps, you can even use Nesticle if you want!

Okay I'm in. Just don't bitch at the green text on the video. I cant afford to pay for the full version. BTW I can't use fraps. Take one guess why not. That is all.
Just one question: for example, Super C, would using the konami code be considered cheating?

I use that, and VirtuaNES for the shit that doesn't play in FCEUltra. I used to use VirtuaNES for netplay, but the netplay stopped working for some odd reason. Never could figure that out.

I am interested.
May I make a few suggestions though.
Until the results are finished I think it would be best if we were talking about this in a forum that requires the "Users" usergroup to be viewed.
This would allow every member of the site to see and participate, but people on the outside would not be able to read what is written.
There are two reasons I suggest it.
1) An article that may come from this could be very interesting and wouldn't be spoiled.
2) To make the playing field even, certain types of files should be distributed. These files may not be appreciated by certain groups or companies. By limiting who has access, these companies would also be removed from the equation.

Yes it would. That would be something I would cover when the game for the week has been revealed. Anything you could call a "cheat code" is prohibited from this contest.

I'd love to have a go at this! By the way, besides Fraps, what are some good (free) video capture programs? I've used Fraps and it's pretty useful, but the whole "you can record up to thirty seconds at a time" limitation is sort of frustrating.
I know XFire has one built in, but I don't know if it's only for games that XFire inherently supports.

My Sydapedia page lists my game collection and friend codes, if you're interested. |

I definitely want to take part in this NES Championship. Digital Press did a similar tournament using arcade games.

Any supplementary files that people might require to partake in the contest cannot be distributed through the boards. It will have to be done privately.

I'm down. hopefully this will turn out better than the MKII tournament.
in the interest of fairness, you should upload an emulator and the roms of the games we will all be playing, so we are all on the same playing field. hell, even somethign like fraws being uplaoded would be useful.

Ummm.. Look up one post above yours.
Syd can post links to the emulator and any shareware recorders, but unless you want to see his April Fools letter from Nintendo become real, he cannot post any NES roms.
