I just figured out why this untooned thing is especially retarded. When a real person is depicted in a cartoon, they are rarely drawn to look EXACTLY as they would in real life. In general, real life people are drawn as caricatures, with emphasis put on their most prominent physical features. Look at representations of George H. W. Bush on the Simpsons, he's usually given an oblong head, a giant forehead, an elongated nose, and slightly pointed ears.
Thus, when "untooning" something, you must accept the basic truth that prominent physical features are not drawn to their true proportions and must be readjusted to fit within the confines of genetic possibilities. Thus, a character with big eyes probably has bigger-than-average eyes, but their eyes aren't actually 8 inches in diameter.
