While I'm loving the game, it doesn't seem like it's going to be nearly as long as San Andreas was. I've logged around 10 hours so far in game time and I'm already 25% complete.

God, I love the multiplayer. Me and two friends were acting like retards doing fly-bys on the army helicopters.

I sold my home and everything I own just to buy a 360 and this game. So fucking worth it.

Welp, I got this game the other day, and though I'm nowhere near completing it, I thought I'd say a few things.

First off, it's a good game. Worth buying, especially if you are a fan of the series.

That said, once the hype dies down, this one may go down as the worst game of the series. Reasons:

--They went for a more realistic feel with this game. This is cool in some ways, but it winds up being a bit boring and tedious at times. San Andreas and the games preceding it had a much looser, almost cartoonish feel, yet they were more fun to play as a result.

--Driving is a pain in the ass in this game. Again due to the increased realism, it's much harder to drive without crashing into shit constantly. The cars all seem very sluggish, too. Especially the motorcycles.

--We were given planes and a jetpack in SA, and then had them taken away in this game? WTF?

--Vigilante missions are gone? Again, WTF?

--Although the city is very densely detailed, I kind of miss the wilderness areas of SA. I used to love riding dirt bikes around those hick towns.

Those are my main gripes so far. But as I said above, I am enjoying the game. So here are some positive things about it:

--The main character Niko is very good. A much deeper character than any before.

--The storyline is much deeper as well.

--The cell phone is a cool feature. It moves the game along nicely.

--I like the ability to hail a cab to get anywhere you want quickly.

--Some people have differing opinions on this, but I really like the new system for evading the police. It's much more fun that you can actually run and get away from them, rather than always having to find those damn stars or a spray shop.

So anyway, although I think they made some mistakes with this game, I'm not going to give up on the series......not by a long shot. Hopefully they will hear these complaints from gamers, and the next GTA will reincorporate all the old stuff we knew and loved while continuing to move the series forward.

Well you are entitled to your opinion. But I know that my sentiments are shared by a lot of other people.

I personally like this change towards realism. The last 3 games were great and all, but that cartoony look was getting tired. The game as a whole has a much more immersive feel now, almost eerily so at times. There are just so many little details that I could go on and on about, but I'd rather get back to playing than typing this post all night. All in all, I can't say I'm having any less fun than before. It also has the best storyline of any GTA imo.

I don't understand all the complaints about the driving in the game. It isn't dramatically different than in the previous versions. Yes, it's a bit less forgiving, but it took me about 30 minutes to adjust to it. I actually like the fact that you have to drive a bit more like you would in real life instead of getting away with holding down the gas the whole time. If that's the kind of driving experience you're looking for, go play Mario Kart. The chases are a lot more intense when you also have to worry about wiping out when you get too reckless with your driving...

Yea, it sucks that they removed planes, but think about it...being able to freely fly planes around in an accurate rendition of New York City? Rockstar already has enough idiots bitching at them over all the controversial shit in the game as is, and it doesn't surprise me that they didn't want to go there. It's similar to why you don't see any child pedestrians in the game. They are willing to push the limits, but they do draw their lines...

Actually, they're not. Get into a police car and hit LB to access the police computer. Go to the most wanted list, there's 10 missions on each island, for a total of 30 missions.

I'll agree with this to some extent. I liked messing around in those areas too, but at the same time it was a pain in the fucking ass driving from one end of the map to the other. It took something like 10 minutes to drive from Los Santos to Las Venturas. Also, San Andreas was an entire state whereas Liberty City is just that, a city. The lack of open spaces makes sense in this game.

Now, I will agree the game is not perfect, and I do have my own list of improvements I'd like to see down the line (in no particular order):

1. Buying property definitely needs to be added back in. It sucks only having a few safehouses and such limited storage space for stashing cars. Without property to blow your savings on, the currency has become more or less worthless in this game...

2. It's entirely too easy to get away from the cops. They don't send the Feds or Army after you in this game when you have 4-6 stars. The worst they can throw at you is the chopper and N.O.O.S.E. (aka S.W.A.T.). Having 5 or 6 stars use to be an instant death sentence and you were lucky to survive longer than 5 minutes. Not the case anymore, and it kind of sucks.

3. The soundtrack, which has always been a strong point in past GTAs, is pretty shitty overall. I think part of the problem is that Vice City set the bar way too fucking high with its top notch soundtrack. San Andreas, while not quite as spectacular, still had a pretty good soundtrack. IV easily has the worst radio stations of all the games. I know they had to go with mostly modern songs as it takes place in present time, but old songs work so much better. I've never even heard of 3/4 of the artists on this shit. I usually keep it on Lazlow and he's hilarious and all, but I know that's going to get old once I've heard all the material. And fuck reggaeton.

I don't totally disagree with much of what you said there. As I said in my above post, I defintely AM enjoying the game.

I do like the shift towards realism, but I just kind of wish that some of the looser gameplay of the first games was left intact.

I guess much of this stuff comes down to personal preference. Personally, I like the way the police work in this game. I like the fact that you can actually outrun them, rather than having to ride around looking for those star things. Though their lowered aggression does make it a little less fun to fuck around with them.

The police system works fine for the lower wanted levels. I like how you now have to implement more of an actual strategy to get away, and once you do escape it's a much more rewarding experience. That doesn't mean they couldn't have thrown more heat at you on levels 5 and 6. You don't ever reach those levels unless you're doing rampages anyway, so it wouldn't have affected any of the missions. As a result, those high wanted levels are now a joke and rampages are a lot less fun than they were previously.

I think this is the best GTA game. I enjoy the new realism. It makes the game feel more like a little parallel dimension than "just a game".

Saint's Row 2 should be a good contrast to this one. Thought they started out as similar games, it seems like they are going in oppisite directions, which is great. I love the realism of IV but I do miss what they left behind. So hopefully we'll get that in SR2 and then some.

Look, it is IV. They buried the past of III. The cartoon style needed to end. Here's to a new generation. The cinema graphics bugged me, but I learned they were being produced by the game models. All things considered, I'm willing to let it go since they didn't have higer res models waiting in the wings, or prerendered cinemas.

Of course, I will not be happy until GTA becomes full blown soap opera. I want much more continuity from this series. The world of III spoiled me. throwing away most of it in IV is the most disappointing thing for me about the game. Again, story over gameplay. Although the game's story is on par with the others -- I just like connections and cameos. Cool

Just imagine what they could do in the new universe though. I'm hoping for a 70's era Las Vegas. I would be surprised if they jumped straight to 5 without making side stories considering San Andreas and Vice City were alot more popular than 3.

It is a great way to build on each generation. III started in Liberty City. A smaller area, where everything is closer together, and can keep the game more focused.

Then move to Vice City. You have the game engine down, so now you can expand on it, and flesh it out more. Put more color, life, and varety into it. Sprawling areas with more diversity.

Then when you have that mastered, that take the game to the state of San Andrea, where you can really show off everything you can do with the engine. Give the player as much of everything as you possibly can, and let it be the Magnum Opus of that generation's Sandbox games.

Who knows? Maybe they might even add some new cities to the GTA universe?

I would love to see not only more cities based on the US. (Detroit, Chigaco, Portland Wink ), but also cities from around the world. (London, Paris, Rome, Moscow, Tokyo, etc.)

I read somewhere that they don't plan on releasing V until like 2013 or essentially the next generation of consoles so yea, there's definitely going to be several spinoffs using the IV engine in the meantime. That might be the reason why they removed a lot of features from the previous games. They'll slowly add them back in, and then some with each upgrade to IV.

They should bring GTA to the GTA(the Greater Toronto Area).
