From the 8-bit: A monster-slaying epic prequel featuring multiple paths, playable characters and endings.
From the 16-bit: The first of two globetrotting epics--and then some, in this case--with a falsified number.
You're going to be seeing that word, epic, fairly often from here on out, just so you know.

Now don't get me wrong, I love Final Fantasy II, and the series is my favorite, but Castlevania 3 is flawless. Incredible game.

Agreed BUT once I beat it last year I never want to think about playing stage 9 ever again, but I could play FFII whenever.

Any other Castlevania v. Final Fantasy matchup, I would go for Final Fantasy, but, this is the best Castlevania game (until Aria of Sorrow, anyway) against and FF game I'm not quite as crazy about.

FFII (IV) was my favorite video game of all time until recently.
Super Mario Galaxies was just fun from start to finish and is now the new #1 in my book.
But as for why a game from the early 90s could be my favorite for so long?
It had a good plot. It had characters you could get into. It could have ended as early on as when Cecil became a paladin and would have been a good game, but continued through several more extensions, without becoming long winded.

And it's Final Fantasy II for the win. This means that the majority of the Castlevania games that made the lists lose. Next.

I had to abstain on this one. My favorite Castlevania vs. my favorite Final Fantasy...
