So I think I'm finally going to get a Wii. It'll probably be a couple of months, which sucks, but at least I'm getting one.
What I need from you guys is suggestions on what games to get. I'm obviously not going to be able to buy a huge library of games right away. I'll probably be able to swing about three to five games in the first couple of months. But a lot of games look good, and I don't wanna waste money on something that looks good but isn't. I know there is the obvious buys like Twilight Princess.
Basically, I guess what I'm asking is if you were just getting your Wii and could get any five games, what would you get?

Five games, eh?
Twilight Princess
Mario Galaxy
Metroid Prime: Corruption
Brawl
Mario Kart
And just for good measure, here's five of my favorites that WEREN'T made by Nintendo:
No More Heroes
Sonic and the Secret Rings
Okami
Ghost Squad
Metal Slug Anthology (requires GCN controller)

It depends, although SSBB, Super Mario Galaxy, and Twilight Princess are a must. After those three, I'd pick up No More Heroes. Since I never got a chance to own the gamecube or PS2 versions, I'd get Resident Evil 4, but if you owned the earlier versions, Super Paper Mario or Metroid Prime 3 would be my last picks.

I got my wii about 1 month ago and instantly bought Twilight Princess and Brawl. I'm about 20 hours into Twilight Princess and have loved every minute of it so far. Brawl is a must have for the multiplayer, but if you don't have anyone to play against you might want to pass. A few days ago I bought Mario Kart and though it's pretty fun and the online mode is excellent, I wouldn't call it a must have, unless you're a fan of the series. If not, it's just going to be more of the same. After I beat Zelda I plan on buying Mario Galaxy, and after that another one I've been waiting to try is Super Paper Mario so I guess those are my 5 picks for you...

Super Paper Mario is very fun, but it's not quite what it was billed as.
The Paper Mario games were RPGs, and SPM was originally billed as a platformer using the Paper Mario style of graphics. This is not the case. SPM is very RPGish, with the main difference being that the combat is real-time instead of turn-based. Think of it as the Mario equivalent of Zelda 2.

I was hoping for an experience similar to Super Mario RPG, and was a bit disappointed when I first heard it was real time combat, but it still sounds like a pretty fun game and the price dropped to 39.99 on amazon recently so I think I'm going to give it a shot anyway...
I also ordered a perfect shot over the weekend and was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions for light gun games? I prefer something that doesn't use the nunchuck attachment, just mindless point and shoot action for short bursts of time. I've been looking at Ghost Squad and House of the Dead 2 and 3 and leaning more towards House of the Dead. Is there anything better out there? How about Umbrella Chronicles?

Ghost Squad is really fun, especially multiplayer. Alien Syndrome is pretty fun too and it's like $20.
Target: Terror just came out and IGN gave it a 35%. But they also it's a fun and hilariously cheesy throwback to the days of Area 51 and Maximum Force. But it's not worth the current asking price of $40. Wait til it's on clearance.

Has anybody played Dragon Quest Swords? I was looking at games and saw it and was pretty excited. But then I got home and started reading about it. Now I don't know if I'd like it or not. I was hoping for your basic Dragon Quest style game, but this sounds like it is anything but.
Also, part of the reason I think I'm getting it is because I think I've convinced my wife that she'll like it too. She'll probably want Mario Party. Is it any good in compared to the ones on GameCube?

It's OK, although my favorite is still Mario Party 2.
And don't forget all the GameCube games you'll have.

Get WarioWare instead. It's much better.
5 Games I'd get:
Galaxy
Brawl
Fire Emblem
WarioWare
Trauma Center

I know. And it'll be good because my GameCube is jacked up, so I haven't got to play any of my games in about two years. I've got the GameBoy Player as well. Too bad I won't be able to use that anymore. I'm not big on handhelds, so I liked being able to play my GBA games on my tv. But oh well. Maybe they'll come up with a way to play them on the Wii.
I do have Mario Party for the GameCube. It wasn't the last one that came out, but I think the one right before it. She'll probably still want to get something though. You know, something with mini games and stuff like that. I just know I like Mario Party and I don't really know which of the many games available that look like stuff she would like are actually worth what they cost.

I've heard good things about WarioWare and Rayman Raving Rabids or whatever the hell it's called if it's minigames you're after. I also heard Mario Party for wii is kind of crappy...
I also have some interest in Trauma Center. What's the replay value like in those games?

Trauma Center is really good and the pointer is incredibly responsive. The responsiveness actually caused me to give up on one mission because it was so tense my hand's shaking would cause me to botch it up. A friend got me the sequel, Trauma Center: New Blood, which has multiplayer and even Wi-Fi. I got it for Christmas but other games have been taking up my time like Galaxy, then Umbrella Chronicles and now a double team of Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn and Brawl.
I predict Mario Kart will suck up even more focus away from it and a few other games I've bought but have yet to actually get into playing (Metroid Prime 3 and Dragon Quest Swords being among that pile).

The five I'm getting, personally, as quickly as possible are these:
Smash Brothers Brawl
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles
Twilight Princess
Metal Slug Anthology
Although, since I technically already have RE4 for the Gamecube, I could wait on it and get Galaxy instead... hmm.

Not a fan, I love the Dragon Warrior/Quest Series, swords is just not very appealing to me. You can block every attack provided you have shield, and you slash at enemies with the Wiimote, Some enemies are hurt more by the direction of the slash, and the story isn't very...."good" for lack of a better word.
I played it for a couple hours, never came close to dying, and my only hope is that it's just boring for the first couple hours.
As for the 5 games I would recommend, you really can't go wrong with any game by Nintendo. Also Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure. Trauma Center got frustrating once I got far enough into it and I just put it on the shelf with all the other games I'll probably never touch.
STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM ESCAPE FROM BUG ISLAND! Don't even read about it, horrible voice acting, horrible plot, it's a half-assed unscary silent hill/resident evil.

Just a head's up: No More Heroes has been reduced to $29.99 on amazon. For that price, I guess I'll have to pick up a copy to see what all the hype is about. Fuck, my game queue just keeps growing and growing...

Favorite game of all time from any system:
- Mario Galaxies - This game was fantastic start to finish.
Favorite 5 games
- Mario Galaxies
- Super Smash Bros. Brawl
- Mario Kart Wii
- The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
- Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Games that have been "ok"
- Guitar Hero III
- Wii Sports
Games I did not enjoy:
- Wii Play
- Excite Truck
- Mario Party 8
- Rayman Raving Rabbids
- Rayman Raving Rabbids 2
- Prince of Persia Rival Swords (End Battle is impossible with Wii Controls, was ok up to then)
There is a reason why the Top 5 games you keep seeing are listed by so many people.
Now, if I were buying all the games at once, I would want different types of games. Going for 3 games that are long and have save points wouldn't be a great idea if you are into the story. I would get Mario Kart Wii, Smash Brothers Brawl, and one of the others. Then eventually buy more games. Kart or Brawl will let you enjoy the multi-player part of the system.

Everyone's mentioned the obvious choices. However, don't forget Okami (if you haven't already played that on PS2).

It's essentially a first-person adventure with a sword, so if you're looking for a traditional RPG, you'll be disappointed. But if you've enjoyed other side games like Rocket Slime and Dragon Quest Monsters, I would definitely recommend it.

Actually, Nintendo Power said the PS2 version was better.

I found wii only problem is that it costs 450 and they force you to buy 3 cheap games bundled with it.
