I remember how when playing on Jungle Parkway with my friends, we'd always yell at the "fuckers in the woods" for throwing coconuts.
Oh, well. At least they had the common sense not to include that shitty Yoshi track. A dirt maze with porcupines and a giant egg that kills you. Fucking great course right there.

If you haven't figured out the turbo start, you hit it when the 2 is fully illuminated during the countdown. Took me a while to figure that out.. |
You tap it on 3 for DoubleDash. I wonder why the change?
I just cleared al of 50CC (Karts) tonight. I wanted to open the maps up for when friend are over.
I starred 2 lvls, I think I get something if I star one more. (The grade at the end of the tournament)
Oh, also because I beat Mario Galaxies I got Rosalina after beating the Star Cup.
She is frigg' awesome compared to the rest of them. Her Karts would be considered "big" but drive like medium/small. Really really nice.

I also beat everything on 50cc, and just finished the mushroom cup on 100cc. I think I might like the bikes a bit more than karts already, but the computer is starting to get cheap and spams the cheese items much more often on this level. Getting first place becomes somewhat of a crapshoot in some races, but you can get by with a couple 2nd or 3rd place finishes and still win a cup if you're lucky
Also, I think I unlocked King Boo after beating star cup, I guess cause I don't have galaxy yet. I also got Diddy after beating lightning cup or whatever the last retro one is.

Actually it seems all you need is just a save file from Galaxy after a few GPs, that's the easy way. The other way involves getting 1 Star on all Mirror Mode Retro Cups.

I'm pretty happy with their choices of retro courses. Sherbet land is awesome.

mario kart code: 5155-3344-4178
i think they made drafting way too easy in this game. i dont like how you cant continue your power slide when you go off road, like you could in mario kart 64.
i dont like how they have gotten rid of the banana slip save that mario kart 64 had (where you could brake immediately after hitting a banana and not slip)
so far my favorite stage is the one where you are on water and then you go into a pipe and long underwater tunnel. i forget what its called obviously but thats my fave so far.

that's Koopa Cape, one of my favorites too
I don't like how they got rid of the banana save either.
Also, power sliding takes way too long for the super mini turbo. I miss being able to bust those out in a few seconds on MK64. Now it seems like you can only do them on really long turns...
Also I wish there was a way to defend against lightning, blue shells (blast range of this is also too excessive) or POWs. Every other weapon in the game has a counter and its super annoying to get bombarded by these and have nothing you can do about it...

You can dodge blue shells (you also could in MKDS), but it's different now then it was then. In DS if you were on 150cc you could power slide boost away from them with good timing, now I think you need a mushroom boost.

in mk64 you could just go off road and the blue shell would stay on the track. it feels harder to dodge red shells this time around compared to the cube version.

I didn't know that, but what's the point when you never get mushroom turbos if you're in first place. Trying to hold an item for an extended period of time is also useless cause theres so many things that cause you to lose your item...

Yeah the tactic is unfortunately crippled now that you need a mushroom in order to pull it off, which kinda sucks.
Also I didn't know that about the MK64 blue shells.

Overall, I quite enjoy it. A few gripes though:
1. Did they really need to make approaching turtle shells sound like a dial-up modem?
2. Getting rankings on the Cups is completely fucking retarded. If you're good enough to beat the AI and win the gold, that should be sufficient.
3. The Retro Grand Prix courses on Mario Kart DS were a lot cooler.
4. Just because MKDS already used a retro course doesn't mean you can't reuse it.
5. Epic MegaFail for not including the super awesome Airship level from MKDS.
6. They added random boosts into Sherbet Land and took the coconuts out of DK Jungle Parkway. Blasphemy!
All in all, it's a fun game and worthy addition to the MK family. I think they should have stuck more to the MKDS formula though. A challenge mode would have been really, really nice.

i also think the blooper is a lot more effective this time around compared to the cube version.
and for the mk64 blue shell avoiding trick, you have to go really off road.

I think my main problem with the retro levels, aside from the impurities, is there's no synergy. There's two bowser levels, two peach levels, and two mario levels. That's really poor planning, especially when they could have given us the Luigi's mansion level from MKDS.

I wish they had made player cups. For example the "Bowser's Castle Cup" Where you have to play on each of the castle maps.

Drifting is easier, but can't be done as often due to the time it takes. This makes each drift more important. Don't mess it up or you could lose the race.

I also thought it was a bit weird that they had 3 bowser courses in total, but I like all of them so it doesn't bug me too much. I think there's also 3 DK levels. There definitely could have been some more variety. Also, I could care less for the peach ones.

so this game seems like the ultimate candidate for downloadable content. if you could download all the old tracks from all the games, that would rule. but of course nintendo is gonna come up w/some BS as to why they wont do it. i would so download baby park from the GCN mario kart

Baby Park with the new drift system might not be as good as you remember it. Also imagine 12 people instead of 8...
Tracks I would love to download:
* GCN Yoshi Circuit
* GCN Sherbert Land
* GCN Bowser's Castle
I would pay an additional $50 if they offered every track from every MarioKart. I would however ask that they offer a way to play vs without NPCs and item management for VS.

I bet they're saving the other retro tracks for future iterations of the game. It would have been nice if they gave us a custom track building option though.
