I'm not really that excited about anything at the moment. I'm looking forward to Resident Evil 5 and Metal Gear Solid 4, but lacking a PS3 does hurt my anticipation for them.

Ah well, there's always Okami. I can't wait til I have the funds to buy Zack & Wiki, which looks ace.

I will be buying a new TV at Xmas, which'll allow me to play imported NTSC games. I'm sick of being bummed over by PAL release dates. Sure, sometimes I don't have to wait too long, but sometimes the wait isn't worth it. Super Paper Mario took months to make it over here, and when it finally showed up, it turned out that it contained some nasty glitches that weren't present in the NTSC version. That seriously sucks.

It also sucks that the TV I own is too old to play NTSC games. My American SNES works fine, but Super Smash Bros. Brawl won't work. I have no choice but to play it on the downstairs TV, which really compromises the amount of time I can spend playing it.

Fuck you, PAL - I'm with NTSC from now on. Rant over.[/i]

Isn't HD and HDMI universal?

So, if you get a new TV that's has HDMI it should run 720p or 1080p regardless of where in the world you are?

I hope so. Composite, Component, Coaxle, and SCART can all go die now.

Screw the dopes who complain that Fallout 3 isn't just point-and-click anymore, Fallout 3 will still rock the universe. Also, looking forward to the new Brothers in Arms, as the first two are the only FPS games I've really liked in the past six or so years except for Half Life 2 and Portal. Not really looking forward to anything else, though. Everything with any effort going into that's coming out in the future just seems to be pandering to dumbass frat-boy, Halo-types.

It has nothing to do with the lack of pointing and clicking, you complete fucking retard. Kill yourself.

Yeah, his bark is far worse than his bite.

Welcome!

I think that Fallout 3 will be a great game. Though, I feel that it will be great as a spinoff, and not a direct sequel.

It would have to be a true tactical RPG to be a direct sequel, which it isn't. Since it is going to be more Oblivion like, its more of a spinoff. Different type of game in the same universe.

Fallout 3 is to Fallout 1&2, as Zelda II is to Zelda I.

Well, from what I know, on paper it should, but I can't put it into practice since I don't have the money for that kind of tech.

I've got £150 available to spend on a TV. I might be able to bag a TV with 480p, but there's no way I can get a TV with HDMI.

Ack, TVs are far too complicated for my head to manage.

Yeah, I don't things personally online. Maybe my fault for making that my first message

I think I was a little too hasty in stating the reason. Granted, I don't really accept is true canon to the universe of Fallout, but that doesn't mean it can't be good. At least they're alternating the gameplay a little bit. Even if you do choose the shooter gameplay as opposed to the VATS system, taking careful shots in just the right spot and building up your character's talents separates it from most of the "HEY LOOK THERE SHOT IT IT'S DEAD NOW" games nowadays.

I've actually been a big fan of shooters over the years (Ever since we got shareware copies of Doom and Wolf3D with our family's first PC), but at this point I'm getting more picky about what I get. It's either got to be simple shoot eight million enemies with unlimited ammo a la Doom, Serious Sam, or Painkiller, or having difficulty that relies on your mind power and strategy, such as the older Rainbow Sixes, Brothers in Arms, or old Ghost Recons. It seems that most shooters nowadays just pander to those who want to look smart by saying they're into realism in a game, but still want recharging health, and the ability to slaughter eight million enemies in one minute in order to replace their ritalin with video games. Both are fine on their own, but mixed together, they make a bad taste in my mouth. Hopefully Fallout 3 won't fall too heavily into it, and it stays as cerebral as Bethesda claims it will be. I don't have my hopes up too high, though.

Same here. I wouldn't mind some similarities between the two. Let's just hope that Fallout 3 has a few less technical problems than Deus Ex 1 and 2 when they were released.

"Rock the universe"? Hardly. While I respect your opinion, I do not agree with it at all. Also, I hope you do not take any offense from my post! This isn't an attack on you, but rather a general attack on Fallout 3 as I have made several times in this forum.

There are numerous reasons why Fallout 3 will be a mediocre Fallout game. Bethesda isn't "alternating the gameplay" at all, they are using their tired formula which made Oblivion a somewhat-playable mess - this can hardly be called a step up or evolution from the gameplay of Fallout 1 and 2. Fallout has its roots in the pen&paper style RPGs, and was based off of the old GURPS system. When the first Fallout was released, it was seen as being a counter to the standard anticipated fantasy hacknslash stuff (i.e. Baldur's Gate). The original creators behind Fallout have gone on to say numerous times that the Fallout series isn't just about a post-apoc setting mixed with a retro-50's atmosphere and dark, comedic violence, it was entirely intended to be created as an isometric, turn-based game centered around skills and statistics: it was a core part of the entire Fallout system. Granted, the combat in Fallout today seems somewhat outdated, but Bethesda's "revolutionary" VATS is nothing but your standard real-time-with-pause nonsense. They seem to want to utilize VATS in order to show off their HYPER REALISTIC VIOLENCE CAMERA... big fucking whoop.

The only thing I am relatively optimistic about for Fallout 3 is Bethesda's promise for huge dialog options and open ended gameplay, but as their track record shows, Oblivion gave you the dialog options of "RUMOURS?." SO MANY CHOICES! Bethesda has also gone on to say that it will be pretty much impossible to complete Fallout 3 without firing a gun - This may not seem like a big deal, but this GREATLY limits gameplay options. I imagine most people who played Fallout for the first time went the standard route of being a gun-totting maniac, but your options were numerous: you COULD play as a sneak who planted plastic explosives on foes and ran away without others noticing, or as a complete idiot who had the dialog options of "Hurr durr duhhh," or as an intelligent character who resolved disputes through dialog, and relied on his science or repair skills to get by, and if situations ever became grisly, your party was there to take care of business: This will be impossible in Fallout 3, your character will more or less HAVE to use guns to get through the game, and no matter how low your intelligence score is, you will not be able to speak like a retard. Bethesda has also displayed incompetence in regards to the moral ambiguity surrounding your choices (i.e. you have the choice to blow up the town of Megaton or save it... real fucking black and white/good and evil there). Why can't I pull off some Junktown shit and get employed by both Gizmo and MacGyver without other side knowing, and end up killing em both, raking in lotsa cash, and letting the teenage punk gangs to run the town?

A couple of things that have been confirmed proves that Bethesda is failing hard:
-You will HAVE to play as a whiny 19 year old who left the vault looking for his father played by Liam Neeson... I'd rather find the waterchip or GECK any day over this tripe.
-You will only have one fucking party member the entire game: Dogmeat.
-EVERY CAR YOU SHOOT EXPLODES INA NUKLEAR BLAST AND THA PHATMAN NUKLEAR LAWANCHER IS HARDCOAR... seems to be pandering to the so called "dumbass frat-boy, Halo-types" already.
-Ghouls = zombies, Mutants = orcs, Brotherhood of Steel = knights in shining armor, fucking fail hard.
-Mini-games YOU MUST PLAY when you use your science or repair skills in order to "hack computers" or whatever.
-Drink out of toilets or eat other people's corpses to regain health! FUNNY AMIRITE GUYS!?!?
-no more targeted eye shots or groin shots for the sake of the VATS SOOPAR CINEMA VIOLENCE.
no more killing anyone you like, as children have become invincible.
-Downloadable content that you will have to pay for... no fucking thanks.

Knyte made a point in an earlier thread saying that Fallout 3 will be modable, and thus making the game to be playable and acceptable (in other words, how people play Oblivion today). But I refuse to upgrade my computer just for the sake of playing Fallout 3 so I can download mods for it. Ah well, when the game is released, I'm sure the press will praise it for its INNOVAYSHUN and hail it as better than its predecessors. If anything, try to find the tech-demo of Black Isle's "Van Buren" Fallout 3 still floating around the web, it's really what Fallout 3 SHOULD have been.

TL;DR, This image sums things up quite nicely: http://duckandcover.cx/gallery/displayimage.php?album=15&pos=134

like I said, I jumped the gun a little. I loved the original, and I'm just glad it's getting one last hurrah, from a company with a good amount of talent. I'm sure it's going to be vastly different in a lot of areas. I think if they could make the world and interaction a little more similar to Morrowind as opposed to Oblivion (if it were to imitate any of their older games AT ALL). Morrowind kind of had that feeling that the world was huge, but you were always uncovering something new, and it just seemed like the more you explored and progressed, the more of the world opened up to you, both story and gameplay-wise. That said, I am worried most about the game emulating the gameplay of both of those two. When it came down to it, there were only two fun parts of the combat in the whole series- the spell-making in Morrowind, and the magic combat in Oblivion. Also, the dialogue in Oblivion was such a let-down. I actually preferred reading an open-ended conversation in Morrowind than hearing a limited conversation in Oblivion.

Overall, it's not really the environment or story-telling that I have any worries about. I have a feeling that the combat is going to be hit-or-miss, and the stat system may take a little TOO much of the hit. I think it's mainly fanboyism over the universe of the series that keeps my unbridled enthusiasm so high.

When I was younger, when you leveled up, you got nasty powerful and had less to fear from the orcs that were killing you a few levels ago.

In morrowind, it means suddenly golden saints or whatever start accosting you on the roadside.

I liked the idea of a powerful magic system. In morrowind, you cast a zero cost cantrip in a hotel room until you were god of all wizards. This was also good for mastering sneaking overnight and athletics.

Ghostbusters is winning my favor, but I don't like that Slimer is going to be bad again.

BTW, why is 50 Cent fighting the Middle East? The producer interview on GameTrailers made me laugh because he was trying very hard not to say Middle East or anything else offensive. 50 Cent 2 will be the most offensive game of the year, far surpassing GTA IV (which after seeing the GT review, has gotten me to crap my pants in anticipation).

It's not a true remake. It's like the Escape From L.A. of sequels.
