The following is an e-mail I received:

Quote:
Sorry to bother you but I was wondering if you could help me out with something. I'm looking for a game that i used to play back in the old days on NES.
The game featured a boy that had a baseball helmet or baseball hat and the action took place in an amusement park of some sort.
t was a sidescroller. I don't think it was japanese, so either american or european.
I can't remember any power-ups or enemies.
The graphics were quite nice (i think it was one of the latest NES games at that time, it came out after battletoads, jungle book, ninja gaiden....again...i think so, not sure).
I remember the game started with you arriving at an amusement park.
Oh, almost forgot. It wasn't Mario style killing, i mean jumping on enemies. I think you had these balls from the beginning of the game and i think the character was riding in some sort of rollercoaster cart.
Again sorry to bother you and thanks in advance for your help.

My best guess was Totally Rad, which it wasn't. Other people suggested MC Kids, Mystery Quest, and Treasure Master to him, none of which are particularly great guesses in the first place. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Adventures in the Magic Kingdom and Tiny Toon Adventures 2: Trouble in Wackyland fit the amusement park criteria, but not the rest. I'm at a loss right now. Maybe if I wasn't coming off a 9 hour day with 4 hours sleep I could think of something else, but right now, no dice.

I might have some free time today. If I get a chance, I'll hit the emulator.

UPDATE: Haven't figured it out yet. But it is unlikely it could have came out much later in the same year than Jungle Book since it came out in August of 1994, the last year for NES games. But I do have a list of games from that year. Though nothing stands out at me.

Adventure Island 4
Aladdin
Alfred Chicken
Beauty and the Beast
Bonk's Adventure
Chip 'N Dale: Rescue Rangers 2
The Flintstones: The Suprise at Dinosaur Peak
Incredible Crash Dummies
The Jungle Book
The Lion King
Mario's Time Machine
Mega Man 6
Mickey's Adventures in Numberland
TMNT:Tournament Fighters
Wario's Woods
Zoda's Revenge: Star Tropics II

If nobody has anything, maybe later tonight I'll take a look at some games from 1993.

If it's European I have no idea whatsoever, but if it came out in the states I think it might be one of those Camerica Games (i.e. Unlicensed Games). Nothing I have looks to be what he says he has played.

The more I think of it, the more I think I played it. It sounds like maybe a game I played called Doki Doki something. I had a rom of it a long time ago that I downloaded by mistake when I was looking for Doki Doki Panic. I can't remember exactly what it was but it sounds similar. I try to find out what it was.

UPDATE: I found the game I played. Its called Doki! Doki! Yuuenchi: Crazy Land Daisakusen. Its a Japanese game. It was also released in Europe under the name The Trolls in Crazyland. But I believe that was a repackaged version where they added the Trolls dolls to the game. Here is a link to the game on wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doki%21_Doki%21_Yuuenchi:_Crazy_Land_Daisakusen

I know they didn't think it was a Japanese game, but would they have had access to a game like this when it they played it?

I think it has to be it. That is the best match I could come up with. And the great thing was it wasn't on any list I could find. I was just sitting there playing some roms of games I wasn't familier with and it just hit me.

Anyhow. Let us know.

I think it's pretty awesome how, as a collective forum, we can identify virtually any NES or SNES game, no matter how obscure, by even the most vague of descriptions.

That is pretty cool. I think it would be pretty cool to see how many games we could beat collectively. I bet between the lot of us, we've been a lot of games.
