Oh, and let me rundown stompstomps list, because I can't stand to have another post of a billion pictures.

1.Tales of Symphonia-Is this murdarspeak or something? Have it fun combat means what exactly?
2.Disgaea 2- Your admitting you know jack about it, and that your willing to discount it handily because your ex-girlfriend liked it. Are you projecting negative feelings cause she called your dick small?
3.- Eternal Sonata- So, a xbox 360 is incapable of having a good JRPG? Once again, you fail to note anything about it.
4.Phantom Brave- "I didn't give a game a try because the cover wasn't supercool!"
5.Wild Arms 2-"I'm not willing to give a game a try cause I'm under the belief that a game can't get better in the second incarnation."
6.Xenogears- Okay, so I cant actually fault you much for this. I'm not familiar with the first Xenogears, so I can't say whether or not this is true. But to be fair, Final fantasy is often overrated. Buts its hit enough times that you should'nt throw out the baby with the bathwater.
7. Parasite Eve- Its not that complex, are you retarded?

So, in conclusion, you've all but admitted that your incredibly shallow, and you would prefer that the majority of what makes an RPG worth playing should be ripped out to so you can get your super high level and your big number sword. Pathetic.

Oh, and just FYI, your no memesmith. MAX HOMO will never be popular, its not very clever, and its not well suited to insulting games. Don't try again.

Same way you unlock most good things in Suikoden Just get all 108 Stars of destiny. Although The secret or true ending is way too lets make everyone happy, especially after all the shit thats gone on. I wanted my revenge dammit.

No mention for Image

That makes me a sad panda Sad

Also only Ogre Battle was for snes. Tactics Ogre was a psx title. When you come to an argument and bring wrong facts thats instafail.

I'm squarely on the fence on this one. I've had a really tough time getting into jrpgs lately and I've got to admit I sorta like Warcraft.

Lemme go though what's been mentioned

1. Tales of Symphonia - I played about two hours of this. All I could stand.

2. Disgaea 1/2 - Love both of these. Immense amounts of character building and decent stories. Doesn't take itself too seriously.

3. Eternal Sonata - Never played full game. Played the demo and it seemed really generic.

4. Phantom Brave - Just seems like Disgaea light to me. I have it but whenever I'm in the mood to play something like it I'll just play Disgaea 2 instead.

5. Wild Arms 2 - Never played it, though I remember liking the first one.

6. Xenogears - Got about halfway through and quit. Don't remember why.

7. Parasite Eve - I liked this quite a bit. Pretty sure I beat it.

8. Suikoden - Loved the first two; liked the second; couldn't stand the 4th. Never bothered with the fifth.

9. Final Fantasy - Liked everything up until 9. I love 6, 7, and 8. And Tactics. These games used to have a quirky sense of humor about them. It's completely gone now.

10. Breath of Fire 3 - Really liked it.

11. Star Ocean - I sorta liked Star Ocean 2 but never got very far in it. Haven't played the others.

Completely agree with the comments about KOTOR being better than Mass Effect. I was excited for ME and it was a huge letdown.

LLLLLLLLLLLLLLUUUUUUUNNNNAAAARRRRRRRRRRRR
Legend of Legia was pretty good.

My personal favorite Tales game was Eternia which was called Tales of Destiny 2 here. Easily the fastest game of any of them> feels like your playing a hypered out SF2.

also:

Tales of Symphonia- I don't see how the characters and story are "gay to the max." I mean, big deal if you saw kratos being llyod's dad from a mile away. You can't tell me all that shit with reviving the world and becoming an angel, and hte desians and all that shit was generic. plus the combat was fun, and hardly "mashing the attack command."

Eternal Sonata- how the fuck is this even a JRPG? waht teh fuck is a JRPG? the 360 isn't allowed to have role palying games?

Wild Arms 2- God forbid you give a game more than fifteen minutes to get into it. the storyline wasnt' the best, but the mechanics of using character specific tools to solve puzzles in dungeons was awesome, and combat was interesting with those overdrive bars. Once again, hardly "mashing the attack command."

Xenogears- excellent storyline, unique combat with the combo system, and having to balance letting your people run around unprotected, or using fuel for your giant robots. I can't see how that's overrated. also more than "mashing the attack command."

Parasite Eve- DEFINITELY proof that all RPGs aren't about "mashing the attack command."

Tactics ogre is a snes rpg, the rerelease that america got was for psx though, but hey at least you know you're instafail.

The problem with jrpgs now a days is that once ff7 came out no one tried to do anything different. They're all just melodramatic soap operas for dudes.

Hero: Shit I am so unsure of myself!
Love interest A: WE CAN DO IT IF WE TRY!
Hero: JUST LEAVE ME ALONE
Villain A: I am barely competant I'll try to destroy the world and be outsmarted by five teenagers with attitudes.
Villain B: I'll jump out and be the real final boss at end game, See you guys there.

The rpg genre hasn't done anything interesting or different in about 11 years and that was when square killed it with cgi. With other genres you can easily point stand out titles that have made influences on the rest of the genre. I guess I'm just alone on this one with being fed up with a games largest selling point being it's storyline and characters rather than engaging gameplay.

See, there is part of your problem. Roguelikes don't actually have engaging gameplay. The games are meant to exploit your drive for achievement, but the achievement is meaningless without context. They allow you to accrue mucho magic stuff and mighty stats/levels, but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't mean anything cause your just getting them to get them. Stratagy and such are limited to mash the attack button.

I've developed a taste for the judgement ring on Shadow Hearts. Its a simple way of keeping players engaged in a fight.

Best is tabletop RPGs. If you have a high strength in those, you can do all sorts of high strength stuff. Hoist a horse over your head, wrestle a bear to the ground, burst chains, and other feats of strength beyond damage. Stats really mean something when you have a DM who can adjucate any concievable action, versus a static videogame.

Haha, Robotgumshoe, trying to ignore my post Cool

I love how you were projecting your small dick insecurity on others early in the thread because they weren't into the pedo-loli bullshit that is DiskGay-a. Protip: The only people who like pedo shit such as Disk Gay Ah are short-dick losers like Robotgumshoe, because they're unable to please grown up, consenting women. Instead they have to resort to rape fantasies about flat chested, boyish 8 year olds.

In general, I have a love/hate relationship with JRPGs. I loved Tales of Symphonia, as it was great fun completing the game with 3 other people, and I liked Tales of the Abyss even better in terms of gameplay mechanics, it was great. The story for both games however, I couldn't care less about; they felt like typical, clichéd anime nonsense. I especially despised how lame the last boss in Symphonia was: a little kid named Mithos inside of a silly looking machine? please... (Abyssion and Nebilim were cool though).

I'm a big fan of the Breath of Fire series, hell, I even enjoyed Dragon Quarter in terms of its story and character design, and found the aggravating gameplay mechanics to be rather innovative. The Final Fantasy games up until 7 were a blast to play, and I still love Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, and the Mario RPG titles.

To me, what got the whole "roguelike" or dungeon crawler thing underway in terms of popularity and acceptance was the first Diablo: it didn't really give you an epic storyline filled with twists and intricacies, nor did it really give you memorable characters, but it really succeeded in terms of its setting. Sure the dungeons got tiring after the first 4 or 5 levels down, but as soon as you hit hell, it was a whole new ball game.

Surprised no one mentioned Planescape: Torment, it is probably THE best story and character driven RPG in existence, bar none.

Back to Baroque, anyone get a chance to pick it up? I've read mixed reviews...

Because apparently all rpgs that come from japan suck. Not like the awsomeoness that is world of whorecraft This Is A Joke

For BOF Breath of fire V was terrible imo. Im a big fan of exploring every inch and fighting my way til im comfortably leveled as i play rpgs for storylines. So V pretty much sucked for someone who plays like i do. IV was pretty good although i was sad they went to the thousands in terms of damage and hp instead of keeping it in the low hundreds. Dunno why but it just feels different. II was so fucking glitched up its pretty much unenjoyable for me. I was pretty good although Ryu was way too overpowered. III is easily the best mix of difficulty and gameplay.
