I'm not sure which one is my favorite. I just got done watching Road Warrior so I thought I'd ask.

I've never seen either. Children of Men is in IMDBs top 250. I've also heard it was good. My favorites are ones made in the 70s and 80s though.

Solarbabies is actually the next movie I'm getting from Netflix. I remember seeing it when I was younger, but haven't watched it since.

I've got three: Mad Max 2 - The Road Warrior (Mel Gibson's best), Akira (Shouting eachothers names is funnn!) and the animated Hokuto no Ken(/Fist of North Star) Movie (Because head explosions kick ass!)

Equalibrium would be dystopian, not post-apocolyptic, really.

While Road Warrior is really good, I think "Beyond Thunderdome" covers a lot more aspects of society, and it has fucking Master Blaster.

My personal favorite would be 12 Monkeys

All three Mad Max films, 12 Monkeys, Logan's Run, The Omega Man, and the original Dawn of the Dead.

Escape from New York and Escape from LA don't quite count, but I'd like to nominate them as they incorporate many aspects of post-apocalyptic films.

-Stephen King's The Stand
-Countdown to Looking Glass (an old HBO movie I can't find anywhere... a countdown to nuclear winter told through several newscasts)
-the new Dawn of the Dead

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.

This is very geeky of me, but whatever:

I'd like to point out that Dawn of the Dead and The Stand, though both great movies, both take place durring the apocolypse for the majority of their run, so they don't really count as post-apocolyptic, in my opinion.

Day of the dead, however, would fit the bill as by that point the earth is over run by zombies completley.

This is the only reason I didn't say The Day After

Yeah, I always think of the Escape movies as such even though they aren't for the exact reasons you mentioned.

I've never seen Omega Man, but I do have it in my Netflix queue.

Ahhh, a nice catch. Buuut, I have to meta-geek your last post...

Part 1 and the beginning of Part 2 of the Stand were during the apocalypse. Parts 3 and 4 were post-apocalyptic.

One could argue that the first part of Dawn of the Dead, when everyone was turning into the undead is during the apocalpyse while their survival at the mall was post-apocalyptic.

Either way.

Not really a film so much as a series, but insanely good none the less. It took guts to take that adaptation on and they did an excellent job with it.

Good pick.

I choose Bebe's Kids.

Oh, I thought you were talking about signs of the coming apocolypse.

Bebe's Kids...

Did you ever hear the stand up for Bebe's kids? Robin Harris is one of my favorite stand up comedians ever.

It's not bad, but the movie was "tear your eyes out" terrible.

I don't know that I'd call Soylent Green post apocalyptic. But I'd say yes for Planet of the Apes.

I immediately thought of Soylent Green as well. But that's more of a dystopic future than a post-apocalyptic one. I was thinking about starting a thread on that as well, because there are a lot of good dystopic movies as well.

Planet of the Apes though, definitely post-apocalyptic.

I don't care how, what, or why, if I'm gone, and apes rule the world, its post-apocalyptic IMO. Something bad happened.

dystopic-future movies would be a good thread. Actually, its probably a better thread than this.

They showed it to my advanced gifted class in the 7th grade for society analysis. I remember not sleeping for like 2 straight days.

Another badass film is The Andromeda Strain.

I've been wanting to watch that for a while now, but I can never find it anywhere. I better check netflix...

UPDATE: Okay, I'm an idiot. I already had it in my queue and forgot I put it there...

On a side note, there is a mini series remake of this due out this year.

Beowulf.

Cyborg.

Resident Evil: Extinction.

Serenity.

Two of those are blatant lies.
