So I got House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return to distract myself from the anger-inducing frustration of the last few SSBB Challenges I need to finish.

I never played HOTD3, but HOTD2 is just as fun as I remember. My only complaint with the game is that there's no unlimited credits option on either game, unlockable or otherwise, so you can't play it to just to fuck around.

And I still really wish the original HOTD was on there, as I have it memorized. Sure the graphics are ugly by today's standards, but if Nintendo can sell us N64 games for $10 apiece, there's no reason Sega couldn't put a semi-ugly game on the collection. And it's not like HOTD2 is exactly pretty to look at anymore anyway.

Also, I'm pretty sure that HOTD2 has the worst voice acting ever. The original one was silly and poorly written, but at least the actors were into it. In HOTD2, most of the lines are delivered with very little enthusiasm. But hey, it's still hilarious.

Do you use any of the gun peripherals or just the plain wiimote? Some of the add ons look kind of interesting, and it certainly would be more appealing to me to be able to use something that resembles an actual gun in these games, but most of them seem to have shitty reviews. I have heard good things about the Nyko perfectshot, but it seems to be hard to find and the ebay price is a little high for all that it is, a piece of plastic.

A friend of mine got me the knock-off that came out a few weeks before (it's solid white, no blue plastic with it). It's nice, but I've prefer using my Zapper for Umbrella Chronicles while a friend uses the handgun.

I use the Wii Zapper, and I like it alot.

I'd really like a second Zapper, but as far as I know, there's no budget package that comes without Link's Crossbow Training, so I'm not going to get it. I don't need two copies of LCT and it's hard to sell a peripheral-based game without the peripheral.

Really? I had read somewhere that the Zapper wasn't very accurate or responsive, but I doubt it was a very credible source. I'll admit the design isn't all that appealing to me, but 20 bucks isn't a bad deal at all when it comes packaged with a game. I may just pick it up next time I'm at the store.

The Zapper is as reponsive as the remote itself, mainly because it's just a shell for the remote. If you unhappy with the responsiveness of the remote, then yes, the Zpper in unresponsive. If you aren't, then it is.

if the game wasn't fifty bucks I might consider buying it.

otherwise I could get the dreamcast version of HOTD2 and hte x box version of HOTD3 for cheaper.

It's not fifty bucks. The MSRP is 29.99, and you can get it on Amazon for 19.99 plus 4.49 standard shipping for a total of 24.49: http://www.amazon.com/House-Dead-2-3-Return/dp/B000WCQWR6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1207883979&sr=1-1

I picked it up last week, although I haven't cleared either of the games yet, I read that upon beating them, you unlock 5 hits and 9 continues, seems relatively generous in terms of being able to lazily play the game...although I definitely would prefer an unlimited play mode.

That's not entirely true. You start off with three hits and either three or four continues, and each time you die, it ups yours health one point (to five) and then your continues one credit (up to nine). So if you die enough times, you'll max out your health and credit long before you unlock them by beating the game.

Nine credits and five health isn't terrible, except that it's nine credits total. So if you're on two player mode, you have to share the nine credits, thus making two player incredibly unfun.

So apparently free play actually can be unlocked in every mode except HOTD2 Arcade Mode, which happens to be the only mode I've played thus far.

And I was all "It's fine, bitch. Spanky's mom takes anyone."

I've been thinking about picking this up, but I wasn't sure.

There are far too many other Wii games I need to get before I even think of picking this one up. Another game I might buy when it's relegated to bargain bin status or something.

Sorry to bump this thread up again... but I seem to be having some problems.

Today I was with a friend, so we decided to give HotD2 Arcade a spin. This was the first time I have had an opportunity to play HotD on the Wii with someone else... all of the sudden, randomly throughout the levels, the screen would freeze, or environments/enemies would not load fast enough, presenting us with blank, black space, and invisible enemies who would mercilessly destroy us. Has this happened to anyone else? The game seems to work fine on single player, but on multiplayer, glitch city.

Goddamn, the second boss is so annoying when he's invisible.

From Wikipedia: "According to GamerCenterOnline, Sega has announced that if House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return for the Wii sells well, they will bring House of the Dead 4 to the Wii as well. The Wii, however, may not have the proper CPU power to carry out the graphics as it looked in the arcade."

Nintendo needs to put out another console already. A Wii with the 360's graphical capabilites would be nice.
This Is A Joke (sort of.)

The underpowered CPU comment didn't have a footnote, so it's more likely than not an editorial comment from some Sony fanboy.

What Nintendo really needs isn't a system with better graphic capabilities. That would certainly be nice, but what Nintendo really needs is for the complete fucking dickheads who made the Unreal Engine to stop being complete fucking dickheads and release an official build of the engine for the Wii. That would greatly increase the system's software possibilities.
