I've been playing the heck out of this game. A large list of unit types, a bewildering amount of possible customization, an amusing sense of humor, and main characters that I like for some bizarre reason. Oh, and fist weapons are not bottom of the barrel. I'm not sure whats up with the main characters tie though.

Anyone else a fan of the disgaea series?

I bought this game, Makai Kingdom some year ago, which is quite much like Disgaea. But I really didn't get into it...

Sorry for the bump but i just got the first disgaea and it really is a fun game. But it does seem like i will have to do an absurd amount of grinding to get some of the features. Doing a random generate multi level dungeon for every item seems a bit much as does the numerous type of each character i have to level.

I've gotten to the final chapters in both Disgaea and Disgaea 2 and then abruptly quit. I love the games, but in both cases I spent too much time in the item world and leveling up and such that I got burnt out. I'm sure I'll go back to them eventually, though.

Pick 7 generics, and level them up exclusively. Don't bother making 30 characters, you really don't need it. Adell will take apart 2-3 enemies a turn if they attack him, and Rosalin does really good damage against lone enemies. Add in a few combos, and you can take apart even a 100+ enemy in short order. If a class appears that you really like, just reincarnate an existing character into the new one. Your levels for reincarnation stack.

And don't get trapped in the item world. Most of your stuff that you leveled will get outdated until you get to the highest tiers of stuff. Couple of keys to item world.

1. Just head for the exit by making a tower and tossing people. There is no penalty for it.
2. Keep wimpy items around for attending dark courts. If you manage to hoard a bunch of Exits, abuse them to get the most felonies. Felonies boost experience gain, make things cheaper, and help in passing bills.
3. This is important, when your going into a dark court, make a ten people tall tower, and have someone toss the whole thing into the court. That way, nine different characters get the same felony.

The story game itself is pretty wimpy, its only the bonus content thats full of 1000+ level nonsense. If you want to go that far, then go for it.
