I'm just curious what people's thoughts are on this one. I think it's the most overlooked Star Trek film because it's an odd number and because it's so unbelievably dark. But I really feel Star Trek III does what more sequels should be doing in terms of character development, story development, and dramatic twists.

I voted love it, but my feelings aren't that strong, I just think it's good.
Definitely the best odd-numbered movie. The problem is that Khan is a tough act to follow.

True that, but I thought ST3 lived up to it.

Though, he did a fair job as the Klingon baddy, it is still hard to see Christopher Lloyd in any role where he is not saying the word, "Jiggawatts".

3 confused me a bit. I just didn't understand the plot of a reborn Spock. It was good but it was just so weird.

III, being the best of the odd numbered films, has the right action/drama balance and is quite an enjoyable movie. I give it 3.5 stars (out of 4). Clearly not the best of the series, I rank it fourth behind II, VI and First Contact.

But before IV, eh? I do admit, the comedy in that one can get quite tiresome on repeat viewings.
Makes me wonder what everyone's rankings of the Trek films are. Here's mine, but keep in mind, the first three are a virtual tie.:
1. VIII, First Contact
2. VI, Undiscovered Country
3. II, Wrath of Khan
4. IV, Voyage Home
5. III, Search for Spock
6. V, Final Frontier
7. X, Nemesis
8. IX, Insurrection
9. VII, Generations
10. I, Motion Picture
I know I have V pretty high up, but the TNG movies are pretty god awful and TMP is incredibly boring, in spite of the great ending. I can never sit through to the end for the big payoff anymore. I may have Khan pretty low, but my preference between it and VIII & VI are pretty indistinguishable. Depends more upon my mood.

The Next Gen movies wouldn't be so bad if they all didn't have the exact same plot.
Some Mad man/woman threatens a planet/system, the Enterprise must intervene, with the climax being that Picard has to face the Villian in one-on-one combat to save the day.
Generations = Soren wants to blow up a star, Picard has to fight Soren one on one, and then 2 on 1 to save the day.
First Contact = The borg threaten Earth by going into the past. Picard has to fight the Queen, one on one to save the day.
Insurection = The Son'a and Adml. Dougherty want to relocate the Baku in order to strip mine the planets mystical energy. Picard had to fight Ru'afo one on one to save the day.
Nemesis = Shinzon wants to overthrow the Romulan Empire and then conquer all of the Alpha Quadrant. Picard has to fight Shinzon one on one to save the day.
I love First Contact, but the two that followed, I just kept asking myself: "Haven't I already seen this before?"
My list in order:
1. First Contact
2. Undiscovered Country
3. Voyage Home
4. Generations
5. Wrath Of Khan
6. Search For Spock
7. The Motion Picture
8. The Final Frontier
9. (Tie) Insurection + Nemesis (Fact Fact: Nemesis spelled backwards is "sis-e men" (Sissy Men).

Ah, I see you like Generations a whole lot more than I do. A part of my dislike for it is how unnecessary it was to have any members of TOS in it, because VI effectively said goodbye to them.

Originally, it was suppose to have more members in it, and was to be a passing of the torch, so to speak. However, many of the original cast turned down the offer to appears, as their roles were too small.

I actually liked Nemesis. Insurrection was terrible though. If it had been a two part episode of the TV show, I probably would have enjoyed it. But as a big screen Trek, it was quite lacking.
