Syd Lexians-
I feel the need to gloat... as of 10 minutes ago, I am an official doctoral candidate. You see up until you defend your choice of academic research, you are a peon... you mean jack shit. Then you have a candidacy proposal exam, where your committee members basically ask you questions about your research for about 90 minutes. At the end, you either get to keep studying/doing research/preparing for comps the next year or you get kicked the fuck out on your ass.
I did not get kicked out. Fuck you political violence, I'm coming for you!
Next up, two publications and comprehensive exams... that will be part 2.
/pompous rant

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us. |

Congratulations!
This also answers my question as to whether or not DarkMaze is still around.

It's tough to give it one name, but if I had to, I'd call it psychological effects of persuasive communication in political violence or terrorism.
I look at communication dynamics in groups, with a focus on terrorist groups.

Syd, I just fucked up the spacing with the quote... my bad.
UPDATE: Fixed. Syd's OCD can relax.

That's awesome. I'm going to seek my doctorate in International Law and Human Rights, so our fields are pretty closely linked. I'm currently just an undergrad political science major though...

That's cool... stick with it. Most of the academic work in the area is kinda shitty. If you can put out good research in Int'l Law/Human Rights, OR terrorism for that matter, you're pretty well off as it's mostly pop culture kitch nonsense at this point.

That's true. It's getting increasingly difficult to find good material in the area.
