Seriously...my best friend/roommate threatened me, that if I didn't let him drive after his girlfriend, he was going to slit his throat, the sad thing is I'm 100% sure he would have done it. (He was intoxicated)
They broke up minutes earlier and she stormed off threatening to call the cops. The cops did eventually come. I didn't mention anything about it to them because I had calmed him down (a.k.a. tackled him and chocked him out enough) and got her on the phone so he didn't have to leave in his current state. I literally had to hide every sharp object in the house in my room.
How the fuck would you guys have handled that situation. There is about a 100% chance he was getting arrested if he left.

First... water in the face... if that doesn't work-
Punch as hard as I can, aiming for the chin... prepare for broken hand.
I think in that instance, you have to try to keep him from leaving the house at all costs... which means knocking the mother fucker out cold. He'd probably be sore when he woke up, but in a month or so, he'd probably thank you.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us. |

I definitly had my fist clinched and ready to unleash, but when your sober and the other persons drunk they can be extremely hard to handle. Picture him as a drunk rabbit, with alligator tails for arms.

i hate being in that situation douche. thank god its only happened maybe like once or twice ever. but you handled it the best you could on such short notice so you cant really feel bad about it. only hope your roommate learns something and isnt a dick about it the next time he gets drunk.

I'll tell you that I wouldn't choke him unconscious... but that's mostly because I can't do that to anyone except weak, frail little kids... Wait
Seriously though, incapacitating him was probably a smart move.

I had to choke him out a couple times cause he kept screaming. I was holding him on the ground and he starts screaming rape as loud as he can thinking im gonna let him up or something. I have never wanted to punch him before in my life until last night/this morning. I'm sure it will happen again though so I gotta have a game plan ready.

They were all girls so it's not like they could of helped much, plus he was in a drunken rage I'm not trying to put them into any danger.

Keep a shilleglagh handy. Or a 5-iron. Or a Lousiville. Or chloroform. Just wait til he heads for the door and take him from behind. You could also rabbit punch him if you'd rather go unarmed.

I've had far too many of these situations at my house, i just started banning company from staying the night until I find some less alky freinds.
I'm usually nap time when I get too much drink, but everyone I know and hangout with all match the description of Douche's friend.
And the only downside to Valdronius's suggestion is that everyone knows where my tonfu is and they usually have it in hand by the time someone needs to use it against them to stop their rampage.
Make him feel really bad about it, maybe you could inject some new story material and scare him into not getting that drunk again.

I have a dumbass friend who told a girl he'd kill himself if they broke up just to prevent them from breaking up.
But yeah, I'd knock the fucker out.

I used to deal with this stuff a lot when I was head of security at college. We were always trained that if someone is threatening violence or suicide that it was ok to get them down to the ground and keep a knee on them until help arrived.
Granted, there were a few times that you had to knock the fuckface out, and that was seen as ok too if you really didn't think you'd be able to keep him down or you thought he could hurt you. We usually used a couple of elbows to the temple. That did it.

Violence is usually the last thing I would try to use, but damn its hard to rationalize the situation with a drunk person. It's like all he heard was sure I'll let you go. When I really said When your sober and less likely to go out there and kill someone with your car, then sure Ill let you go.

yeah, fighting my friends is the last thing i think i would ever do. I dont think i would be able to lay a hand on them. but i would def talk to this dood when he is sober about it and make him realize what a dick he was for putting you in that situation. and tell him to grow a pair while hes at it. and once again another example of how women are the devil (i know women had little to do w/this but i still like to call them that lol)

I guess I phrased that wrong, then. Let me try again.
I would have a better class of friends, so I wouldn't have been in this kind of situation at all to begin with.

He's not like an alcoholic or anything.
I'm not gonna base a friendship with someone i've known on how they can handle their liquor. He doesn't normally get like that. He was laying down in his room and his g/f stopped over unannounced and broke up with him. You'd have to understand what he's been through I guess.

You sound like a wife sticking up for her batterer husband. Stuff like this doesn't just magically happen out of the blue, and lots of people go through breakups daily without such drama.

none of my buddy's have gotten irrational like that, though my bassist gets so fucking emotional when he's drunk...then he pukes. Meh, just take it for what it is. I can't imagine how I'd react if I was sober and that happened. Just talk to him about it when he's sober, it'll blow over...

I actually sound like a friend trying to defend my friend, he's like a brother to me. I care about my friends to no end, otherwise they would just be random people. Both his g/f and him are in the wrong in certain perspectives. I in no way glorify or warrant his actions, obviously, but the guy has been through so much, its hard not to feel for him. Try being less of a robot.
It's already blown over he thanked me for not letting him do anything stupid.

You're glorifying and warranting his actions by treating them as if they're almost an afterthought. It was obviously a problem in your mind, or this thread would not exist. You asked what we would have done, and I gave my honest answer. Sorry if I don't associate with dregs who allow their substance abuse problems to put themselves (or me) in jeopardy.
