So I just beat this game, and without spoiling the ending for anyone, let me just say that I was incredibly upset at the ending...at first. But the more I thought about it, the more I liked it. And the more I think about it, the more impatient I become waiting for the sequel.

However...

If there were no plans for a sequel, I would hate the ending, though there are some good plot twists in it that I really didn't see coming.

I haven't played Saint's Row, but I really loathe these games that leave things for the sequel. It used to be games might not have made sense, but they at least stood alone. Now, it's all: we'll get to that in a sequel "Condemned" style. Grrrr...

Unless that's not the case with this game, in which case [/off tangent rant]

I'll try to explain this without ruining/giving away too much.

The ending has some really unexpected (at least for me) twists. Which was awesome. But it was open ended rather than a real conclusion. This sort of open ended cliffhangeresque ending with no real resolve is fine for season finales and even movies videogames with a guaranteed sequel I suppose. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't. Especially with games because they run the risk that the sequel may suck. I don't really think it will in this case, but you never know.

If you liked the way The Sopranos ended, you may like this ending, even without a sequel. But in a game, where I have control of my character, I like the idea that I would have the opportunity to have some sort of sense of accomplishment.

I don't know if you are familier with The Princess and the Lion (I think that is what the story is called), but the fact that there is no right answer and is made just to make us argue because we think we have it figured out enrages me. I suppose its because I love logic and solutions and open ended stories make me feel like a detective who never solved the big case.

You'll be happy. I just read about the sequel in Game Informer.

I'll do that. Is there a release date yet?

I was just flipping through and noticed it. I'll check later, though.

Awesome. I was looking the other day and couldn't find a date so I didn't know if one was set yet or not.

I'm sure GTA IV will more than be enough to get me by until then.

So is the game good? I've thought about buying it, but I don't know if it's just a cheap GTA clone or a good game on its own.

I'd recommend it. Once GTA IV comes out you may not care. But if you want something to occupy your time until then its good.

Even though its next gen, San Andreas can still compete with it. GTA has been doing it for so long, it seems they are getting better and better at it. But there are several things that Saints Row does better.

First of all, your character is completely customizable. But because of this you player has no personality, much like the main character in GTA III.

There is a lot of cool gear to wear, but not as much as there is in San Andreas. But all things considered, it is still better IMO. Trying on/changing outfits is much more smooth here. If you want a bandana, you only have to buy it once. You can then wear it forward or backwards, whereas in San Andreas, you have to buy both separately.

Customizing cars is much better in Saints Row. In GTA, if you spend money to customize a car, then total it out, you are SOL. But in Saints Row, there are several custom mods for each car. You can then save cars to your garage. It is then there forever until you delete it from your garage. So even if you abandon or total your favorite custom ride, you can go to your garage and it will still be there for you.

I also like the driving better in this. I hate doing street race missions in GTA. I love it in Saints Row.

There are several things they both do well and things both have on the other. Once GTA IV comes out, you may not want to play Saints Row. Everytime a new GTA comes out (LC/VC Stories aside), they get closer and closer to perfection. If they can capitalize on what Saits Row did better, they could and should put out a superior product.

But as far as being just another cheap GTA rip off, I'd say this is far from it. Its definately worth trying at least. And since its at a reasonable price currently, its a good buy as well. And its not too hard or too long so if you got it now, you could most likely complete it by the time the new GTA comes out.

Yeah its really fun. I remember the old days when you could actually rent a Nintendo from the video stores.

But now that I have beat it, I'm gonna go back to an older system until GTA IV comes out. I may go back and play San Andreas, which I've never actually beat. With Saints Row, its easier for me to go through the missions. In GTA, random acts of crime seems more natural. Its easier to get your wanted levels up. Its also easier to tear up stuff. And the fact that there are dirt bikes, bicycles, four wheelers, and even golf carts (or is that in Vice City?) makes jacking cars a little more fun.
