Any idea how to run such a thing? Two people connect at a predetermined day and time and post their results? Everyone logs on at once? So many questions.
So far I've got a total of 9 friend codes from forum members, counting myself. I know Douche still needs to get his WFC set up. Would a 12 or 16 man tourney be doable?

I'm actualyl intersted in how the rating system work in Brawl...
And just the general feel/flow of the game, how much tech was taken out, what was kept... I plan to play it this weekend, friend who lives across from me has it, so shoudl be exciting... : )

there are no online rankings in brawl.
they made the game slower, made it so air dodging doesn't have you floting or sliding in mid air (you still fall while dodging now) revamped the items (they're all useful in one way or another now) and revamped the characters for balance.

I was wondering about that. I would use the air dodge-slide all the time in Melee to make quick moves in the air. I kept trying to do it in the Subspace Emissary to get over cliffs and always wondered why it wasn't working.

No online rankings, supposedly because they don't want to pander to the 20 people that are willing to play the game until their thumbs bleed and social life collapses until they utterly dominate some list with no meaning, while everyone else is left to stare in awe and shame at how they will never get to see the top.

Played a couple matches last night on the hijacked Wireless I was on, some were lagging others were just fine, I guess they just take the best signal or something, who knows how it works really?
Also playing online has furthered my hatred towards Lucas, not a single brawl I was in, was Lucas not there. PK Thunder my balls Lucas.

Ness is better than Lucas, because at least Ness isn't a whiny little bitch.

lucas has a much more useful B special, and his aerial PK fire not going down at a SHARP angle is awesome. also, his PK thunder is easier to connect with.
earthbound sucks.

I hope they add in more specific setting for online play with anyone...
Like having stock mode ffa, or stock mode one on ones, or time mode of each of those, i dont' care if they cap the max tiem to say like 5mintues, or make it so it has to be set time, or perhaps cap the stock matches at like 4 stock or something, or maybe 3. But I wish they allowed for that.
Also allow for people on the same wii to queue for team matches together, or to be put in the same ffa match. Also make team matches have the options of either stock or timed... and people can queue for eitiher.
and I hope in the play with wii friends option shoudl give you a lot of personal control on what's alowed.

Alright, maybe not a tournament, but how about an official Brawl night? Maybe Thursdays starting at 9-10 p.m. EST. that was we can all get everyone added and registered on our lists at once and definately find someone to brawl with? I'm personally up for anything Tues-Thurs (I work 1-11:30 Fri-Mon so that's no go for me).

Earthbound was overrated. No one even cared til like years after the game was released.
Now by saying it was over rated i am not saying it was bad. I am saying that many people think it was better than it was.

If they do it right then people of equal rating, (roughly of equal skil lthen), would play eachother, so you'd always be playing with people that gave you a challenge, that'd you'd have fun playing, and so would the elite people.
And they could also have a non-rated mode as well wehre you can just play anybody randomly, without worrying how your rating would be effected.
One draw back though, is such a system of haivng to pair you up with roughly equally rated people (which rating would go up or down by wins and losses) is that it'd likely make the queue time longer.
But people looking for challening fights, and to improve their gameplay, coudl definitly benefit from a online rating system in Brawl.

so lets set up some three ways with char, and he can stand around as a "ref" and capture the match. then we can post our tournament here.

Looks like we'll have to establish a 3 minute time limit for the matches if you want recap .

My friends and I came up with a couple of solutions for being able to capture vids...
First rule of thumb we follow, if something freakin' awesome happens, and we're afraid of going over time, we just have everyone but the person who performed the awesome feat go kill themselves. So we can save it.
But we've also set up matches to help insure we make it under the 3min, first we generalyl set the timer for the 3min so we know when it's nearly up.. and maybe toward the end if we think we'll go over, and we care to save the match we fight more aggressively.
Aside from those two things we do to get into the time-limit here's some setting that help.
For 1 on 1's... If we only have 2 stock for each player it seems we can fit in the entire fight, with items off.
If items are on with 1 on 1 (most importantly the final smash), we can generally get the match done fairly easily with 3 stock.
Advantage of one it's a more fair fight, disadvantage one blunder realyl hurts you... The better player should still win on average but the matches will be closer, adn any individual match may be harder to catch who the better player is, even though on average it'll be seen. For example dying early really blows, 1 life against 2, on 3 stock, if you die early 2 lives verse 3 isnt' bad.. is' 1:1.5 ratio, but 1 against 2 lives sucks 1:2. You ahve to play really defensively.
THe second solution while it works, it kind of sucks because if one person gets the final smash (depending on the level, and character chocies), it can be pretty much an instant kill, for the opponent, and they might as well have just commited a suicide... It takes skill out of the game when you have items, alows for more ways for chance to influence the match. And items benefit certain characters over others, namely, fast one/one that can fly are advantaged. Fox who both is fast, and can reflect has a large advantage. And for the final smash, people who can fly, are fast, and have range attacks have a huge advatage, which is why Pit, and fox are extremely good at getting the final smash, especially when played by a skilled player.
So items have their downsides as well....
Those are the two ways we've set up our one on ones...
Also an important factor is level size, how easy is it to corner someoen, to force a fight, how much wiggle room, how far can they fly before they will die... (make it require a higher percentage to kill them).. We generalyl go for medium size to small levels.
Such as caste siege, final destination, pokemon stadium, luigi's mansion...
And we avoid larger levels such as Hyrule, levles that give a lot of moving room like Many of Captain falcoln's levels. Brinstar depths (the spinning one)... Also cheap levels, or levels iwth many platform like the "Pikmin level" with all the leaves... it has both those qualiteis, gives tons of places to go, even though it isnt' huge per se, but just gives a lot of escape routs, and it also has a lot of optoins for cheap deaths. So even though we might be able (on average) to fit a match in tha tplace, we generally disable that level from random selection option.
Those are major strategies, and we apply similar concepts to FFA and team fights...
I'd explain some differences in those but have a class to go to....
