I still haven't played 2, but I heard it rocks. The original was fucking solid, as far as I'm concerned, and really raised the bar for those types of games.

Syd can back me up on this one... I was bitching ENDLESSLY about part II. I think I put a curse of every member of every development team member's family. Like, those fucking Medusa bitches with the freeze-one-hit-kill shit made me almost chuck my controller. And the fucking non-ending....
That being said, I do actually really like both games a lot. And "Chains of Prometheus" on PSP looks pretty badass.

It's true. He was.
We'd be in the middle of an AIM conversation and then he'd leave to play GOW2, only to return angrier than he was before.
I never used to read the reviews in Variety, but I love that they're written so unabashedly from a sales prospective:
Variety wrote:
Sony’s blockbuster Playstation 2 series “God of War” has been squeezed onto the handheld PSP, where the spectacle loses a little of its epic proportion and the tried-and-true gameplay feels a little more tired-and-true. “God of War: Chains of Olympus” is a solid adventure with plenty of blood, breasts and Spartan beefcake along protagonist Kratos’ roadtrip to Hell and back. But sales might suffer a bit as fans of the series find that our hero’s efforts this time owe more to Sisyphus than Hercules.
Right... It's about the customers.

I've played 1, it was pretty cool but the kind of game that once you beat it, there's no real reason to ever play it again.

My only problem with GOW is their interpretations of mythology... That and it's similar to a project of mine in development. Luckily, the changes it forced me to make are for the better IMO.
Oh, and GOW reminds me a lot of Shaolin Monks.

If by interpretation of mythology you mean "turn everything we can think of into some kinda monster to kill." The only thing they managed to get right was that the gods were a bunch of jerkasses.
The game itself is okay, but I preferred God Hand. In addition to the hero not being some constipated cliche, the button mashing in God Hand required that you get up close and personal, rewarding a well timed but aggresive playstyle. Swift dodging, attacking them just before they hit you to counter, breaking their guard, God Hand demands that you develop some twitch skills. God of war rewards poking the enemy, juggling, and spamming magic until you get to shenmue them to death.

I've heard the GOW games are somewhat like Shadow of the Colossus was... which if it's true, means I'll be out buying all GOW games tomorrow. I loved SOTC.
Any truth to this claim?
Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.

paying the clone factory (or clone shop... i forget what they used in the PS games) to dig up this thread only because 1up.com has a week long featurette on God of War III.
I never played GoW because I won a copy off of eBay that froze before the first boss battle. I sent it back to the guy and told him it didn't work, and got the SAME EXACT COPY in the mail a week later. Did the exact same thing. Fuck that guy and fuck God of War.
