I had done a very large post on the games I had bought myself on christmas (god of war II, odin sphere, and metal slug anthology), but my computer ate it. My enthusiasm waned for making any sort of post. But, I've recently bought a second game from Atlus, so I might as well talk about the other one.

Odin Sphere: It is a very pretty game, but I'm not quite sure how much gameplay is left. I've played through the first story, and the second is more of the same. Beat on critters, grow food with their souls, gorge to boost HP. I appreciate the difficulty, in that playing stupid will hurt you, and rewarding swift full HP wins, but the enemy variety is lacking. The first story kinda weirded me out. Supposedly a love story, but their hints of mind control, or at least magically induced romance. Noting that the guy the main character falls in love with killed her sister, it just comes off creepy. Also, Lord Brigan kinda reminds me of Dr Eggman on steroids, and combined with the everpresent mead horn and the lack of a shirt or pants, would have made the perfect avatar for sock.

Persona III: Its basically a dating sim with a random maze RPG thrown in for good measure. The actual amount of RPG is decidedly limited because your character gets exhausted by fighting after about 8-9 fights, so most of the time is spent building your social links, which does fortunately pump up your personas. Combat is poorly balanced, most enemies die with one hit to their weak element. Perhaps I was too hard on Dragon Warrior? I mean, there is something to be said for strong fundamentals, which is pretty much the main thing this game lacks.

Should I give their other stuff a try?

I never understood why people loved persona games. suppsoedly persona 2 was liek the best thing since sliced bread, and super rare. I played teh first persona and hated it. I loved how one of your characters was a black guy with an axe and a backwards baseball cap though.

It's hard to say. Atlus publishes a lot more games than they actually develop, so you may see some games with the Atlus tag on them that aren't REALLY Atlus games.

For example, Atlus published the HORRENDOUS version of River City Ransom released for the GBA. They're also publishing the Wii version of Baroque.

Also, Atlus did the Trauma Center series, and that shit is good times.

The biggest problem with it is that you play as Alex and you are stuck with Ryan as an NPC partner for the duration of the game. He starts off with very high stats, but he's also dumb as fucking shit. So he'll roam around not hitting enemies, or worse he'll hit you. And early on, taking a few good hits from big dumb Ryan will kill you pretty quickly.

I personally enojyed Shining Soul 2, but that was developed by Sega so I am not sure if it counts.

It's good for portable River City Ransom, but it would've been way better if it had multiplayer. And if Ryan wasn't a giant tard.
