Goodnight, funnyman.

McCain ftw. You magnificent, old bastard.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.

That makes me feel way less bad about him taking Massachusetts.

Honestly, I have no idea how he took the state. He dicked over the Masschusetts Republican Party big time.

Well, Mass. went 51-41, so it could have been worse, like in Utah where Romney got over 90% of the vote, something usually only seen in dictatorships.

Hopefully Hickabee will get the hint and drop out next, that way we can sit on the sidelines while the Democratic Party tears itself apart until its convention - which is still a long seven months away.

When is the Republican convention? Around the same time? I was thinking of going, just to see what it's all about. Plus it'd be cool to try to meet Johnny Mac.

It's in early September in Minnesota, less than a week after the Democrats' Convention in Denver. According to wikipedia, the reason they're so close this year is because the incumbent party usually gets to go last, but this year the Dems wanted to go after the Olympics, pushing the RNC back till September.

Minnesota in September doesn't sound nearly as cool as some other place over the summer... but I suppose I may still give it a shot. I hope Zell Miller talks again. That bitch is crazy.

I never understood why you would just drop out of something like this. It makes you look like a quitter.

Well, mathematically his chances were very low, while his monetary risks were very high. He would have had to win most of the winner take all states remaining, and get around 75% of the vote in the proportional states remaining just to have a chance. Meanwhile, he would have had to spend almost his entire personal fortune in an almost futile effort. Instead, he leaves with some dignity, while already hinting at a return in 2012 (unfortunately).

For what it's worth, I read a transcript of his speech, and it was well written, especially concerning foreign policy and culture. One of the few things he's said that I actually liked.

Quote:
Ralph Nader has announced plans to run again for the US presidency.

The anti-establishment consumer advocate made the announcement in a televised interview on Sunday.

Mr Nader was accused by many Democrats of handing the presidency to George W Bush in the November 2000 elections. He ran again unsuccessfully in 2004.

Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are vying for the Democratic ticket. Senator John McCain is almost certain to run for the Republicans.

Nearly three million Americans - more than 2% of the vote - backed Mr Nader when he stood as the Green Party candidate in the 2000 presidential election.

That election was so close that a small proportion of those votes - particularly in the key state of Florida - would have put Al Gore in the White House.

this was the best thread i could think of adding this w/out adding a new one. guy drops out, the other jumps in.
