I'm tired of playing NES, SNES and Genesis games with my keyboard. What's a good controller I can buy for my computer that can be used for emulation?

Anything resembling a PS2 controller.

just get a wired 360 controller.
better yet, go to wal mart, they have this usb converter thing for ten bucks that lets you use a gamecube, ps2 or x box controller on your PC (simultaneously for multiplayer, I must add). it even doubles as a 2 port usb hub. that's what I use.

I grabbed a Super Joy Box Pro off of PlayAsia. Our Wal-Mart doesn't sell what Jew is talking about, but the SJB works great.

They make adapters for just about every game system's controller. So depending on how die hard you want to be. You could get a SNES adapter for SNES games, Genesis adapter for Genesis games, etc etc.
Personally, I dig the wired 360 controller. I also have a 2-port "Super Joy Box 11" which I use my Real Arcade stick with.

Awesome, thanks.
I was just trying to play Contra III: Alien Wars with my keyboard, and I didn't last more than 30 seconds.

I use one called the retractable controller. It's pretty much a PS2 controller, but the cord that hooks up the the USB is retractable. It rocks.

Hey guys, I wound up getting a Logitech controller at Best Buy. It's set up just like a PS2 controller, and seems to be working well.
Another question......what are some of the best sites to find ROMS? I know of a few, but I was wondering what everyone's favorites are.

i went this route:

Although, when i bought mine, they were still rewiring controllers, so my snes controller can't plug into a real snes.

Since I'm going to be investing in this soon I need this thread for reference
Originally I was going to go to CircuitCity.com or Target.com or something and see what they had that I could order online. I'm not sure the local Wal-Mart here(20 miles away) has the adapter USB thing you guys are talking about but I'll look into that too.

I use a Saitek P880 Gamepad. Only drawback is that most emulators force you to use the analog sticks instead of the directional pad.

Yea thats really shitty, I was doing the next weeks challenge with a 360 controller. The thing is its more precise then the digital pad on it, man I need to invest in a USB NES controller.

If you dont mind looking like a jackass you can always map the d pad to the left side of the key board and the A & B buttons to the right and hold the keyboard like a giant NES controller, I've done it and it sorta works.
