I can beat the very first MegaMan, but it takes a portion - NO! - ALL of my cunning. It involves spamming the Magnet Beam in IceMan's stage and the infamous pause-attack trick on the Yellow Devil. And it's only happened once, I think, on an emulator. I might've used save states. Maybe THAT'S why I won. Yeah, now that I think about it, I think if I don't have access to save states I just save IceMan's stage for last and chicken out once I get to the jumping puzzles.

I have beaten Sonic Spinball, though, for real. Once on a real Genesis and again on the Sonic Mega Collection for the 'Cube. That involves a lot of spastic jamming of the C button any time Sonic gets even close to the flippers. I never was very good at pinball.
(I also have a habit of reading aloud everything that comes up on the status bar at the top of the screen, so that makes it hard to try to play the game in front of observers.)

I've beaten all Mega Man titles on carts. I've also beaten ZAMN on cart. There was however, this crappy game called Obitus that I bought once that sucked and completely kicked my ass.

I was actually talking about Mega Man 1 on Game Boy, but the one for the NES is pretty hard too. I went back and beat Mega Man 4 a little bit ago, and was kind of let down. I didn't think it was nearly as hard as what people said.

My favorite part of that game is spending over an hour getting to the fourth and final stage and then dying quickly. Oh man.

Oregon Trail on the super poor mode. Its easy to beat it on Banker sure but try doing it starting out as the farmer.

Glad to see someone else remembers this game! Yukon Trail was pretty good as well, it was fun to choose the fat rich guy to be your partner and then watch him break some part of his foot/leg/ankle/whatever, every 2 steps.

On a separate note, Final Fight on the SNES was damn near impossible. I never beat it until I picked up the Capcom Classics Collection, which gives you an infinite amount of lives and the ability to play with 2 players.

One more thing, I've noticed that people generally consider the first Castlevania on the NES to be one of the most difficult in the series. On average, I can usually clear the game in about 15 minutes (Death can be a pain sometimes though). I find Castlevania 3 to be much more difficult, considering its length and some of the bosses you fight. I never finished it until recently, and figured out the trick to fighting the doppleganger is to keep changing from Trevor to your partner continuously, while scoring a few hits in between. It's also annoying that if you die against Dracula, you don't start right outside of his tower like in all other Castlevania games.

For some reason, Castlevania I always gave me more trouble than III. Sure III was longer and some of the levels were frustrating as hell, but somehow I managed to beat that one a bunch of times on the NES, with both Sypha and Alucard. Never with Grant though, cuz Grant sucked.

In the original one, levels 4 and 5 would always give me a lot of trouble. I fucking hated the first part of Level 4 with the platforms and the fishmen, and Frankenstein was annoying as hell. Most of Level 5 wasn't too bad, but Death would consistently kick my ass. I only ever beat the original on an emulator, but I should probably give it another go around now.

The problem with the original game is that you were massively fucked if you died in Level 4 or 5, because your ability to advance is severely dependent on the strength of your whip and how good your secondary weapon was. The game wasn't as generous with power-ups as CV3 was, so if you died in Level 5 and you had to fight all those goddam black knights with a weak whip and no secondary weapon, it was an uphill battle.

On the topic of Castlevania, has anyone actually beat the first Castlevania Game Boy game? ""The Casltevania Adventure" is arguably the most difficult in the series, especially since Christopher Belmont is the slowest, gimpiest member of the Belmont clan. His whip DOWNGRADES every time an enemy hits you...

About the Ninja Gaiden video:
That guy is a pro, whenever I have that stupid jump twirl attack I run out of it crazy fast, there's no way I can manage to bring it into a boss battle. Also, how does he manage to land so many hits while jumping during the last boss battle??

I consider myself quite good at Super Metroid.

But this is just sick:

I would not call this game hard, but I sure as hell would call it hard to do what this guy did.
