Pretty cool article about EA fighting Fox News about stupidity. I'm not a huge fan of the current EA but I thought this was pretty cool.

I blame Kevin McCullough in thread #4398.

Edit: Watching the interview has actually made me hate women more. Way to go, Cooper Lawrence. Way to defend women everywhere... Evil

I think the right does this kinda thing to rile up their older viewers who don't play games / use the internet etc. It sounds shocking and its a perfect distraction from things that matter \ are true. The depth of idiocy displayed every time they get on a soapbox over entertainment like this is disgusting.

I'm just glad these kinds of tactics won't be effective when we're the older generation, cuz we'll know first hand that it's B.S.

Because of the voting habits of my generation I fear that by then the sham democracy is slowly becoming will have already been done away with, you couldn't turn your TV off in 1984, only down. Sad

Fox News copping out on the Mass Effect story:
1.up.com wrote:
The strange spat between EA and Fox has made for some interesting water cooler gossip this week. In case you missed it, the story began when Fox decided that it was a good idea to run an extremely erroneous report on BioWare's Mass Effect which falsely highlighted gratuitous amounts of "full frontal nudity and graphic sex" present in the "marketed-to-children" sci-fi epic.

During the broadcast, Game Head's Geoff Keighley heroically tried to point out all the reasons why these sorts of claims were total bunk, but unfortunately Fox News was having none of it. Instead they chose to crack Luke Skywalker porn jokes at Mass Effect's expense.

After the show Electronic Arts quite rightly took serious offense at having their IP libeled on network TV, calling out the fear mongering 'journalists' at Fox in a strongly worded letter sent from the office of company Vice President of Communications, Jeff Brown.

Today, MTV Multiplayer brings word that Fox has indeed responded to Jeff's comments -- though unfortunately for gamers it wasn't with an apology. Rather than correcting (or admitting) their mistake, the network has opted to pass the buck, saying that they repeatedly attempted to get EA on their show and that EA refused. Says Fox:

"Fox News Channel has extended several invitations to EA through a company representative to appear on Live Desk With Martha MacCallum to discuss Mass Effect and the segment which aired on Monday. We have received no response."

Right. And what relation exactly does any of that have to do with blatant lies broadcast over a supposedly fair and balanced network?

Also, this author gets pwned for talking about a game she has no clue about:

Today on Fox News, could Pong be to blame for recent violent steroid-fueled tennis incidents? More on that at 11, but first on the O'Reiley Factor "Liberal fucks in the White House". On Fox News, always fair and balanced.

Right, so whoever EA sends to talk to them can be shouted down whenever they try to explain why the segment is full of lies and be accused of peddling smut to children.

Hal Halpin, president of the Entertainment Consumer Association --a consumer advocacy group for computer and video game players-- issued an open statement to Fox News after the network aired a misleading debate segment about the Xbox 360 RPG Mass Effect last week. Both news anchor Teri Van Horn and guest Cooper Lawrence claimed that Mass Effect featured pornographic content and that the game was being marketed towards young boys.

Hal Halpin wrote:
"On behalf of the [ECA], the national non-profit organization representing American video game consumers, I urge you to correct and repudiate the misstatements leveled by Fox News’ Live Desk regarding the story and character interactions in Mass Effect.

Your show’s reporting was irresponsible and incorrect. Your own “expert” Cooper Lawrence has subsequently disclaimed her misstatements… In the future, we ask that you book real gamer and industry experts on your show…

ECA’s members are disturbed by your news organization’s apparent disregard of the truth in this instance. We represent a diverse group that cuts across all ages, with the weightiest portion in the coveted 18 - 45 age group, and with women accounting for 38% of gamers. Over the past week, our members have mobilized to speak out and set the record straight on Mass Effect, and we ask the same of you."

It's nice to see Fox News get reamed like this, and by everyone it seems.
