Somehow "Deliverance: Stormlord II" has returned into my life. This game was absolutely infuriating when I was younger, but now that I'm older, wiser, and slightly better at games I think I want to try again to beat this bastard. Alas, I'm in video game lockdown for a couple of months, but now everyday I will dream of tasting victory over it's mangled, rotting corpse.
In other words, what games did you find too hard and never finished, but now you're ready for a rematch "Rocky II and III" style? Or games you think you'll never be able to conquer?

I don't know why I bought this. I got it around 97. I could never get through the first boss. I remember taking one or two hits and dying. I was going to give this game another try last December but I could not find the power cable for my SNES. Back then of course I knew nothing about strategy and figuring out hit boxes... As soon as I fix my SNES I will come for YOU!
If I could find a working NES I would also try Batman out again.

I think the first TMNT game had everybody stumped.

Journey To Silius.
I've come close to beating it, but even with Game Genie, it kicked my ass over and over again.

Now - Blast Corps. I never got past this level where you have to use the Ramdozer to push timed-explosive crates onto a crane, then lift them and drop them onto a group of crates before the nuke truck hits them and explodes.

Also, the NES Back to the Future... But I think I sold that jerk to Funcoland.
That's right, "jerk" not "junk".

As a kid it was Final Fantasy 1, Castlevania, and Ninja Gaiden.
Good, but they beat me down. Came back, and owned em. Sans save states of course.

A graphic adventure by MicroFun for the C64 called Death in the Caribbean. Due to load times (1-2 minutes to move one screen over), I spent probably 100 hours on this game, and could never figure it out.
I recently went through it with a walkthrough so I could see the ending, but for over 20 years, I could never figure out the right sequence of item collection and whatnot.

Damn, the box art on that viking game looks badass. I think I've seen the box for the first game in that series, the giant viking dude totally looks familiar.

some of the old skool Spectrum games really pissed me off but they do spring to mind now and again.
Jet Set Willy being the obvious one. then there was not so obvious like Cauldron and the last few levels of Stunt Car Racer.... they were very beatable, think i was just lazy.
i also remember a great horse racing game which almost broke our keyboard with its button bashing....

Dynamite Headdy on the Game Gear constantly handed my ass to me.
Maybe I should try to get my revenge sometime.

Syd, you were my inspiration to buy that game at a flea market in May of last year. I beat it the very next day and have kicked its ass up and down the solar system several times since, something I thought you had also done over the years, contrary to your brother. Now I find out you haven't earned seeing the game's ending sequence, legitimately or otherwise, in these 18 years since the game's release?
Of course, maybe I'm being a bit too critical here. I didn't beat Super Mario Bros. for the first time until 1999, but that was only because of my insistence that all the Bowsers die by fireballs.
Also, in regards to TMNT, that one never had me stumped. I figured it out easily.
Lastly, I don't think we can discuss this topic without bringing up the one game we're all thinking about: Battletoads.

Well, I've beaten it on an emulator, but that doesn't really count. Anyone can beat a game if you save every five seconds and reload any time you get hit.
The furthest I've ever made it without cheating is the first part of the final level.
The furthest I've ever made without *technically* cheating (but using the extra continues code) is the final boss.
If I really worked it, I could almost definitely beat it now. My reflexes, nerves, and focus level are much better than they were back in the day. But after years of playing easier platformers like Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow and New Super Mario Bros., it's hard to just pick up a game like that and be as good as it as I was in 1991.

No child under the age of 10 beat tmnt. I just won't believe it. Maybe now if i played it patiently. But no one beat it back in the day. Almost every human who played that game had probs during the bridge level.

And we're talking about the original NES game, not the kickass beat 'em up based off the arcade game.
No, the fucktarded one with underwater bombs and turtle-eating seaweed.

Basically any Super Mario game after Super Mario World.
Yeah, I suck.
Also, I want a rematch with every Sonic the Hedgehog game that I never bothered to beat while collecting every Chaos Emerald.
That includes Sonic R. I actually own a copy of this game for the PC.
@Syd: Could you possibly be reffering to TNMT Tournament Fighters? I had this game but I unbearably sucked at it so I made a trade and got Castlevania instead. Yay me!

ones I'm currently trying to destroy
Ghosts & Goblins (no luck so far)
Castlevania II (argh! )
Mechwarrior 3050 SNES ( unplayable crap? )
Skate or Die 1 and 2 (broken controls?)
Contra 3 Alien Wars (trying with no code)
Bionic Commando (making good head way here actually)
most of the mega mans with varying degrees of success.

Doesn't change the fact that TNMT Tournament Fighters is fun as hell and everyone should totally try it. A classic one-on-one fighter with nearly good graphics and impossible difficulty level.
If you can beat this game, you're the man. It's even WORSE than Battletoads. In Battletoads the first boss is possible to beat. Granted, it is a challenge, but you can make it. I can't even beat Raphael (or Leonardo, if you happen to be playing Raphael/Mike/Don).
Really. Try and beat it. I double-dog-dare you.

I liked tournament fighters just because i could play as ray fillet or wingnut (no screwloose though). Some of my fav action figures.
I actually played the nes port of the first arcade game first before i played the evil side scroller. My main hate is how bad the collision detection is for the bridge. Sometimes i can squeek by the plants without getting zapped. Other times i think id be safe and then i'd get nailed. It was so bad my parents took it away from me because how angry id get playing it.

I regard the underwater sequence as one of the most overrated challenges on the NES. I can get through it by the 20-minute mark.

Now or when you were like 6?
Even if i wanted to go back and play that game i wouldn't. The game just wasn't fun at all.

I actually never touched the game prior to 2000, when I first played it on an emulator. Even then, I still never had much trouble with that part and might have even beaten it back then if the ROM didn't inexplicably cut itself off right before the Technodrome Guardian boss fight in Area 5.

Unless you had all 4 turtles with 100% health at the last Shredder i can almost guarentee you'd lose. None of us ever got that far except my friends dad and he almost killed him. Almost.
