Marvel vs. Capcom 2 has way too many characters. What else has too many people to play as?

I've never heard too many playable characters as a complaint.

It's only a problem when they all start playing the same. Ahem, Super Smash Bros Melee

Sometimes i feel suikoden games have way too many as im the rpg player who likes to max everyone out. I always forget who is who. But thats only sometimes. Honestly i wish capcom vs marvel had every character in each respective universe. Or just have Shinji Mikami go toe to toe with stan lee ufc style.

The worst offender was Lego Star Wars II the original series. There is a way to unlock characters earned from the I game (Ep. I II and III) but with some of the modifications the characters became utterly useless. Jarjar was the highest jumper in the first game but in the second it was taken away. So he became useless just like the movie.

ridiculous. Aside from stuff like the DBZ or MK games, where everyone is almost the same, you can never have too many playable characters. Each character offers a different and unique playing style, and therefore new opportunities and experiences.

Super Smash brothers Melee may have had the same control scheme for all of the characters moves, but they were far from all being the same to play as. In fact, the characters in that game (including the clones) were SO varied IMO, that it was always a fresh experience to play as a new character.

My current build of mugen has hundreds of characters. I may not play as all or even most of them, but it always offers a new experience Vs. the computer, and it gives many choices to friends during group play. I add new characters all the time.

My problem with suikoden is that for all the characters, only a few are good options, two are so good as to practically be required, and the rest are just there to occupy your castle. It gets worse when the party maxes out at three. Having 108 members of your entourage should mean you get to bring at least 1/3 to bear in any given situation. Also, on an unrelated note, the little army sequences I have yet to find meaningful in any way.

For fighting games its never been a problem. Example, KoF. You know when you go into KoF there are going to be a bunch of characters, but you get three selections to spread the new and you can always play as the old standbys like Clark, Kyo, Athena, etc. More is better than less.

I hate when my "old standbys" are taken out of the game.

not being able to use andy in 03 kind of sucked.

Whose idea was it to take out Robert Garcia in XI? I'm just glad they put him back in for the console version.

Joe practices an ancient form of Muay Thai that doesnt really involve any sort of real punching or kicking, just wearing shorts and summoning projectiles, with the occasional knee to the air. Just like sagat, but with maybe a tenth of the style.

Is Chang Koehan in the newer versions? I hate him with all my heart Mad

Life has too many playable characters. I say it's high time we drastically trim the roster.

I never played Suikoden, but I have a similar complaint w/Shining Force II. Especially cause you get new characters near the end of the game that dont really add anything new to your roster, except space.

you must be a pretty shitty Joe player then.

the entire korea team has always kind of sucked, except for kim, who was originally gonna be on a different team altogether anyways. I bet he feels shafted.

maximum impact II is NOT a KOF game. fuck that noise.

I don't get the point of RPGs that give you tons of characters. isn't it a much more rewarding experience to have a handful of characters and get attached to them as they develop with events in the game than to just have a bunch of nameless fucks at your disposal?

Yeah. If you're going to do that, might as well make it a strategy game.

Why in the hell should I get good with a character I despise? But yeah, not that I'm a great KoF player, but I suck with Joe.

Team Korea has no excuse for keeping Chang and Choi. There is more than enough options for replacements, and another character would not be that hard to make.

I like how the taekwando team only has one (sometimes two) taekwando fighters out of a team of four.
