Resident Evil, on the fact that I had Silent Hill 2 on Xbox and was frustrated with it a lot.

Both good series though.

resident evil. I like the whole science/bioweapons thing more than the supernatural boringness.

I like them both for different reasons, I think Silent Hill has more shitty games in its series, but Resident Evil has more shitty movies.

That's funny, I'm playing it on Gametap and I'm having a bitch of a time getting through the apartment.

I've never had an occasion to play a Silent Hill game, so I'm gonna go with Resident Evil.

Resident evil makes with the cheesy horror stuff. Its a mansion with a science lab that makes zombies for goodness sakes.

Oh, and resident evil 4. Thats all you need right there fool.

I vote for Silent Hill, because in the first one, you could go into a school and bludgeon mutant children to death with a stick.

Good times.

I havent played any of the SH games, which might be why I liked the movie.

I've played all 5 core RE games plus Veronica, the first movie was decent, the second was crap and I haven't seen the last one.

I only ever play SH2 as well and it's creepy, but I think RE is better myself. I don't really need to repeat all the praise for 4.

I thought it was, good, but too action packed compared to the old ones. It started out as survival horror, you had to save your bullets and stuff, and now it's like you never run out. And the monsters are more human than ever, so it's less scary. Good game, but not good as the classics.

Resident evil 2 is by far one of the creepiest things ive ever played. Silent hill and dino crisis seemed liek going through the motions just with new enemies. The only interesting variations were fatal frame and clocktower as well as parasite eve.

Yeah, I guess ammo is a bit more common, but personally I fucking hated getting stuck with nothing but pistol rounds vs. a Tyrant or knife vs. Cereberus. And I think blowing the head off a ganados and having a huge, bladed tentacle come whipping out of the neck is about as inhuman as you can get.

on the contrary, I think it finally defines "survival horror".

prior games were all "OH NOES! MONSTERS!" with things popping out of nowhere for quick spooks, whereas RE4's theme is simply pure survival. it's not scary because dogs are jumping through windows to kill you, it's scary because hundreds of pissed off mexicans are coming to kill you, you're wounded, you're out of shotgun shells, and you know that your little pistol isn't gonna cut it.

that's my opinion at least.

I've played Silent Hill, the Room, and I've played Resident Evil 0 and 4. RE is better. It's just more fun. Silent Hill plays like it's trying to be more than it is, as though all the supernatural/psychological stuff is meaningful. It isn't, and it's very hit or miss on the scariness factor. Also, the first Resident Evil movie was waaaaaaay better than Silent Hill's film adaptation.

However, my personal favorite survival horror game is Fatal Frame, Crimson Butterfly.

three things here:

1 - the room had a fantastic soundtrack. actually, all the silent hill games did, but I especially find the songs from teh room getting stuck in my head.

2 - see what I was talking about with having to think of these things as different parts of a franchise, as opposed to thinking of them as individual properties.

3 - I hated fatal frame, so hard.

1.) I agree with you on the soundtrack, it was pretty good.

2.) What?

3.) Why? (Other than the control and movement being a bit cluncky.)

1 - melts in your mouth, not in your hand.

2 - something from another topic.

3 - the whole game just bored and annoyed me I guess.
