I'd take Yoshi's Story over Snap. It was easily as hell, but it was beautifully designed and there were challenged for good players, like trying to beat every level with all three hearts and all 30 melons. |
I managed to get all 30 melons in one stage and I agree about the difficulty, Yoshi's story was shits and giggles easy. Black Yoshi was the best, not only did he have Token-hood on his side but he also had High Powered Eggs that sounded bitchin when they exploded.

Black Yoshi could also eat peppers and he would gain a lifepoint instead of losing one. I believe he also got three hearts for every fruit he ate.

Black Yoshi was so bad ass and indestructible, at one point i thought he'd say "Sweet Christmas" when hoards of enemies approach him.

so close..
that battletoads vs double dragon was nuts. the 2 diff asteroids games were fun but by far the best was fighting the whip wielding dominatrix enemies. the only way to get rid of them ironicaly was to grab them by the hair and bash them over and over. the lessons i learned as a youth

Well, that answers my question about Rock N' Roll Racing.
I'm a little late at reading it, but this is a great article, and I like the games that were chosen. Yes, I like Super Mario All-Stars too. I'm surprised that Robotrek didn't make the list. Then again, I'm not sure if most people here have played it.
Any chance of doing a Genesis list, with the Sega CD games and 32X (if there were any good games)? Maybe a Playstation One list, but there were a good amount of games for that system.

There will almost certainly be a Genesis list eventually, but it will be pure Genesis, no 32X or Sega CD. PSX is a possiblity, but that would be a little further down the line. Also, there will probably be a Game Boy one eventually. I'm not sure if it'll be nothing but original Game Boy or if it'll be Game Boy/Game Boy Color. There were a lot of games for both, so it's hard to decide.

Forgot to add X-Men 2: The Clone Wars and Lethal Enforcers.
Bjork, WWF Raw is a good game, but I liked the SNES version better.

I like the SNES one better for Royal Rumble, due to different rosters, but I don't know that I've ever played the SNES RAW. Are they different at all? Maybe the super moves aren't impossible to do with some guys?

Nah, SNES Raw and Genesis Raw are both the same game, except if you have a 32X, you can unlock Kwang on the Genesis version.

I remember those video tips on Coliseum Videos where they'd have Razor Ramon or someone teaching you special moves. "Then, chico, joo gunna press da C button." etc

Awesome list I really enjoyed both lists and agree with you guys on most of them. I also agree on Syd's take on Superman games. People who really want a game with an invincible character are morons, just get a game genie and there you go. your superman!

Thanks for posting that and great job! I was waiting for that right after I read its older brother the "100 greatest NES games."
Here are my thoughts.
-Mega Man X2 is the best Mega Man game ever. It had a double blast super shot for christ sake! Speaking of Mega Man X, Zero doesn't give you his "Z-buster" in the first game, or at all for that matter, he gives you his sword (which was still awesome) he gives it to you in the 3rd game, if you kill Vile before you get to Doppler's fortress that is. But that's a different discussion. |
You can get his Z buster in MMX if you fail to get the mega buster upgrade he gives it to you before dieing. I think it had an orange blast instead of the pink and it was slightly stronger but not really noticable difference in power and the MBuster upgrade was a little cooler.

I'd love to see a Gameboy list. I wonder if the 1st game will match mine. *cough*SuperMarioLand*cough*

I don't know what would make #1 on a GB list. My personal #1 would probably be Mario Land 2, Final Fantasy Adventure, or the oft-maligned Link's Awakening,

Link's awakening would be somewhere near the top 5 of my list. As for FFAdventure? It got released some time ago on the GBA as Sword Of Mana. Pretty good game, but not exactly a part of the franchise.

Yeah, I know it wasn't really an FF game. In fact, it was known as Seiken Densetsu in Japan and the SNES game Secret of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 2) was its sequel. Hence, the rename for the GBA remake.

If you'd want some help with the Gameboy list, I could help. The only downside is, I'm from Europe, so I didn't get as many games as North America / Japan.

I hated Mario Land. The firepower mechanics seemed off. Dunno why they all fly into space.
FFA and Links Awakening are both great games. The other ff were really just SaGa games in disguise and i hated them.
