I finally beat Battletoads which I always wanted to beat as a kid. I'm actually surprised how fast I was able to do it, I was able to beat it in about a week and a half with only playing once or twice every day, and that is one tough game. Me and my friend beat Battletoads & Double Dragon: The Ultimate Team on multi-player a couple months ago too, which was awesome because we had been trying to beat that game for years. When we actually beat it we did it without either of us getting a game over which was also surprising. Damn...they really need to make a new Battletoads or Double Dragon game.... |
the only part of battletoads and double dragon that was difficult for me was the outer space level.
they released a double dragon game on GBA a while back, I hear that's pretty rad. I suggest finding yourself a copy of super double dragon though. it's probably the best beat em up in the universe.

Isn't Rage of the Dragons based off the Double Dragon animated series?

no.
hell no!
you're thinking of double dragon 5: the shadow falls. that game sucked almost as much as the cartoon.
tehre was also a neo geo game based loosely on the movie.
I'm talking about this game:

Sorry to revive a dead thread, but I knew I posted about "Impossible Mission" before, and didn't want to double thread.
Anyhoo.
Just got Impossible Mission for the DS, and I am really happy with the way System 3 remade it. They didn't change the everything about the game except the name, like most remakes do. (I'm looking at you, Bionic Commando).
It's still 2D, it's still you jumping around levels, collecting puzzle pieces, and dodging robots.
You can even play the original game. Or the new remake, or a hybrid of the two.
The downsides:
The sound match game is fucked. Some notes sound too much alike, and sometimes, even when you know you have it right, the game wants a different pattern. At least this is not vital to winning the game.
The game is alot eaiser then the original. The Commodore 64 version took me 20 years to beat. This one took less than an hour. (When I did finally beat the original, I think it took me close to 2 hours.)
They purposely made it easier. In the C=64 version, you had 6 hours gametime. Now you have 8 hours. Also, you seem to get alot more Robot Snoozes and Lift Resets than in the original.
Overall, though, it is a kickass remake done mostly right.
I give it 14.5 stars out of 17.
Oh, and the game new is $20 or less at most places.
I can't wait to see how California Games turns out. (The next Epyx remake System 3 is working on.)

To this day I've never beaten Star Fox for SNES. Well I've beaten paths 1 and 2, but the furthest I ever got on 3 was the Venom space level.

I still can't beat Impossible Mission on the C64.
I can't beat Castle of Dragon on the NES either, but Castle of Dragon sucks anyway.

On a side note, it's taking me forever to beat the GDI campaign in Tiberium Wars, not because it's all that hard, but because the alien aircraft are so unfairly strong and siege your base every five minutes. I have to park vehicles capable of AA fire all over the place because the damn Devastators linger outside the firing range of my base defenses and go to town, usually when I'm trying to lead a column of armor into their base.

I got Impossible Mission for the DS recently as well, and I'm just as happy with it. I saw it at a Gamestop for ten bucks and grabbed it. When I first tried it, I was just as stumped as in the original. But then I realized what exactly you're trying to do with the puzzle pieces, and it all got a bit easier (You're trying to make a solid block; I thought you were looking for, like, letters or something).
I never played Impossible Mission back in the day, though. We had it, but the disk wouldn't work. So I played its sequel, Impossible Mission 2, instead. I still like that one a lot more, and I hope System 3 gets around to remaking it as well.
Anyway, back on track, I tend to come back to games several years after the fact a lot. I think the biggest example of what the thread was originally asking is my current ongoing campaign to finish the Bard's Tale (1985), by myself, without using someone else's overpowered characters or equipment. I'm even making my own maps and notes.
