First of all, Mario 2 rules.

Second of all, he actually says at one point that Mario 2 was nothing like the previous games. True, the game was nothing like Super Mario. However, was Super Mario anything like the original Mario Bros game? No, it fucking wasn't. When the American SMB2 came out, no one gave a shit that it was nothing like the original. All they cared about was that it was fun and it had Mario on the box.

The ending was pretty bullshit though.

I got smb2 Back in like 90. I didnt realize it was not even a mario game til like 2001? To this day i still dont care.
In fact i was highly disapointd when i learned that smb3 luigi didnt jump very high.

Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic wasn't a Mario game. But when they decided to put Mario in it and label the box Mario, it was then a Mario game. But who cares? It was what it was, and I don't speak Japanese so I didn't know it was originally another game until Wikipedia became important.

I'm not sure if it was fun or not. I am officially the worlds worst player at the side scrolling Mario games. I have yet to beat Super Mario Bros, and I have owned the game for over 20 years now. I fucking HATE side scrolling Mario.

As for the videos above... /sigh

I was bored before the intro ended on every single one. I am a huge fan of MetaCafe these days. They encourage videos to be shorter and of decent quality.

An AVGN isn't that good either.

It's the same one joke (This game is ass!) over and over again. It gets old. Plus, either he's the worst video game player in the world or he intentionally plays poorly to make games look worse than they are. Friday the 13th on the NES may not be the greatest game ever, but it's not that fucking hard to figure out how to properly throw rocks.

But what really pisses me off is that AVGN's attitide is indicative of the vast majority of the current generation of teen gamers. If they don't figure out a game within the first five minutes, they give up. That's why we get 3D platformers where the jumping puzzles are harder than the boss battles, because if kids lose to the Level 3 boss, they cry and give up, and make their mommy buy them a new game. And that's an essentially the AVGN's attitide: If a game is hard, then the game must suck. In some cases (such as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde) he's right, in other cases, he's not.

I think he's doing a service to the younger generation by showing them a time when not every game was easy and could be beaten within a day. In the NES era, it took a lot of time and determination to beat a game, if you even did at all. Also, it shows them to be grateful for what they do have nowadays, and that shiny graphics do not make a good game alone. A lot of times, those crappy games were all we had, and we liked them regardless.

AVGN is a good reviewer, and he actually brought out all of the video game reviewers on the internet. I don't see why you complain that he never finished all his games. He has so many from collecting them that it would be impossible to finish them on in a lifetime.

I don't take any video game reviewer seriously unless i have experience the game in a bipartition manner as well. AVGN and Irate Gamer are entertaining but that is it for me. I don't take their bitching or 'annalists' seriously.

If I've played the game then i can agree with the points they make. AVGN reviewed the first TMNT game and i have to agree that it is ass. Now Irate gamer reviewed Ghost n' goblins and yes the game is ass hard but it is challenging and it is not easy to find a game lately that is purely difficult anymore.

Syd make a good point, gamers today just give up. I don't give up unless the game in general continuously freezes on me (Damn you Worm: Journey to the center of shit!) When i played games on the NES, they were challenging but you had to develop some skill to beat them. The games on the N64 on the other hand were way freaking easier then NES games. Shits and giggles easier in fact. I beat most of them within a week. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that 2D games are more challenging then 3D games for many reasons.

I see all these new leet graphics games and all I get in the mood for, is to play some old school game because at least those games will give you a challenge worth your time. And the one thing the AVGN and IRate gamer or any reviewer needs to stop doing is bitching about the goddamn ending. So the ending to NES games are shit. Do they expect naked 8bit playboy bunnys to dance infront of the screen and killing the final boss? It would be sweet if most NES games had such an ending but tough turkey.

I disagree. If he has the time to edit the videos, tape himself playing the games, and post them etc etc, then he has time to finish those games. Half those games he reviews do present a challenge, but they're not impossible to beat.

The only thing impossible to beat is God Of War II on Titan mode.

No one said that. All that was said is that video game reviewers now a days bash every game because they are hard. To irate or angry guy any game that has any type of difficulty is automatically a bad game.

Side note: has anyone else noticed the trend of some new rpgs having a difficulty meters? a few games ive played now you have too choose what difficulty you play in. One of the things i enjoyed was the fact that their was just 1 level of difficulty and when you beat the game you just beat it.

Yeah, I've noticed that. RPGs shouldn't have difficulties, since all they do is increase the stats of the enemies usually. There's no AI to make more cunning.

I don't know if it's fear of losing or something of that sort, but I always play a game for the first time on the easiest level ("the pansy level"), and almost never move up until I've either completed it on easy or have gotten comfortable with it.

Although it's shallow to hate a game just for its difficulty (if it wasn't, I'd have thrown Contra 4 across the room), I make exceptions for games that disguise "challenge" as just outright absurdity. For example, in Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, there were times in the later missions that there would be so many enemies on screen, the game would glitch up. It wasn't "this is hard because I'm fighting the last boss battle", it was "this is hard because I'm fighting the last boss battle AND there are seven helicopters shooting at me instead of him AND every time a missile hits me I get stunned AND for some reason I can't heal". Great game otherwise, though.

If agree. I don't mind some sort of challenge, but if a game has me pulling my hair out in frustration at every little thing, then it's too hard.

EDIT: One example being Castlevania. I've been trying for six fucking hours to beat the 4th boss, and I still can't do it. That's not a good game, it's bullshit.
