So, I'm pretty sure that there's some kind of thing you can buy to put NES games on you DS. But what I want to know is if there's something like it but for SNES games. I've really been jonesin' for some handheld Tetris Attack action. If what I'm looking for does exist, where could I get it and how much does it usually cost?

I know DSNES is out, but it is not perfect yet, and not too many games run full speed yet.

Ya, It's the only way, although with its ability to play DS roms (music and video too) you may be compelled to raise the skull and crossbones flag like I did.

You'll need just to buy the R4 itself, and a MicroSD card to put the stuff on.

The SNES emulation is only a "side dish" to having an R4 and playing DS games as of now, as the best DS SNES emulator out there, SNEmulDS, still has a lot of kinks to work out (SuperFX games like StarFox and DSP-1 games like Pilotwings don't work, large roms dont work either, so don't even think of playing something like Star Ocean) and games that do work have problems (Contra 3: Bosses seem to hide behind walls,,, huh!?) but there are a lot more games working perfectly than on any other DS emu out there...

So yeah.

Why can't it just run a DOS emulator and load ZSNES?

The chips in it are way too underpowered to run DOS, unless someone can prove me wrong.

DOSBox requires substantially more computing (particularly processor) power than the original systems, and is greatly affected by what software the user is running in the emulated system at the time.

The DS uses two ARM processors:

ARM7TDMI(-S), which runs 15 MIPS* @ 33 MHz
and
ARM946E-S, which runs 68 MIPS @ 67 MHz

and only has 4 MB of RAM.

Now that hardware has to emulate at least a Intel 386, which runs 11.4 MIPS @ 33 Mhz. At the same time, it has to emulate the Video GPU, which Dosbox emulates the S3 Trio 64 card. The Trio was named such due to the fact that it had 3 Proccessors in one. (The graphics core, RAMDAC and clock generator) So, you have to take that into account.

Now don't forget the Sound Processor. Dosbox eumlates a Sound BLaster 16, which is powered by The Yamaha YMF262 OPL3 chip.

And, finally all of the other remaining hardware has to be emulated. (The Motherboard's Northbridge and Southbridge chips, The Memory controller, the Serial and Parallel controllers, etc.)

On top of all of that, Then the DS would have to take it's 4Mb of Ram, to hold the Emulator program, the CPU's RAM, the GPU's RAM, and the SPU's RAM. Then, if there is any memory left over, it can be used as XMS/EMS RAM for Dos.

I honestly don't think the DS is up to the task.

The GP2X which uses two 200MHz ARM9 processors, as well as 64MB of RAM, can only run Dosbox with limited success. (Though, it kicks complete ass on any game console from the the 16/24 Bit generation and back. aka Atari 2600 thorugh the SNES, GENESIS, and Neo Geo.)

So, the best way to go in terms of on-the-go emulation would be the GP2X?

By far, since that is the main "unspoken" reason why it was created. It works great, and you don't need to hack the bios or anything else to run them, just throw them on a memory card and you're off.

Here's a list of emulators available for the GP2X:

Ok, so I've been reading about R4 and I've been to their site and everything. But where do I buy it? How much does it cost? The R4 site has the "Where To Buy" page but there's like no information on it.

I bought mine from a site called Sky2k. It took 2 weeks to come here, and I almost went crazy!

But you can get it on Amazon too, for better shipping options and such.

It normally costs from $40 to $50 bucks, depending on where you're buying it from, and the prices of the MicroSD depends on size, man.
