I bought "Operation Surma" today for $5. Why? Well, I've been on a "Mission: Impossible" craze since purchasing the M:I III soundtrack. Sure, I loved the movie, but the music gets me into the mood. Since then I've been hunting down my old tapes of episodes and playing M:I for the NES, M:I for the N64, and now OS for PS2.
I want to talk about the NES game. It is impossible and just reading the back of the box, it pretty much confirms this. I've beaten the game once (twice if you count starting at a freezed state). I grew up with this frustrating game, so I love it for some reason. Chances are, I'd hate everything this game is today if I played it for the first time.
I guess I started this thread for one reason: In the skiing level, why does one skier represent all three IMF agents? Are the huddling together? And why turn into a hang glider at the end of the level? Oh, because it's cool. I'd love to see that trick in a movie.
Speaking of which, if "Mission: Impossible IV" the movie was based on the NES game (minus the "Wargames" ending) would you go see? How about with the "Wargames" ending?

Nice. You really won the day there. What style of gameplay does this game have exactly?

Bird's eye tactical action, puzzle solving, and impossible gameplay.

I can just imagine this scenario at a focus group: One kid throws down his controller, completely frustrated:
Kid: This game SUCKS. It's IMPOSSIBLE!
Konami Exec.: Hey, genius, this game is called Mission: What?
Kid: ...
Konami Exec.: Go play a Jaleco game, pansy.

The game was released by Ultra Games which used to reside in Bufflo Grove, IL. I wanted to go over there and kick all their asses when I was a kid... Actually, I still do.

Right, but Ultra was a division of Konami, created to circumvent Nintendo's 5-releases-a-year limit for NES games. I had no idea there was a branch in IL, though.

Oh, I didn't mean to correct anything. The epic story of Ultra and Konami is a great and wonderous story that I'm sure everyone knows about. I was just pointing out that while Konami is nowhere close to where I live, Ultra used to be. As was EGM at one time... Hmmm...
I'm beginning to get the urge to drive over there and see what's there now. I'm 99.9% sure that Ultra is gone, but is it a Starbucks now? Or some other crazy company...

Yeah, I figured you'd know the Ultra thing. Still hadn't a clue it ever in Illinois! If you ever do go by there, I'd be curious to know what it is now, too.

Damn, now I know why I thought ninja turtles was a konami game years later, then when I played again realized it was ULTRA. I never actually knew that.

Hell, "Metal Gear" for the NES was Ultra.
