I've never been a fan of the Dragonball stuff, honestly. If I want to see outrageously long battles of Japanese creations duking it out, I'll watch a Godzilla flick. Anyhow, this strikes me as completely bizarre. I can see "Speed Racer," but THIS?

So what, this movie will be thirteen hours long and most of it will be that kid screaming and sweating? No thanks. I think Dragon Ball is a terribly ridiculous show and a perfect example of why most people think anime is retarded. Though the way that blurb is written, I wouldn't be surprised if they made it so there's little to no kung fu fighting and hurling of energy balls and focus more on the "aliens invade earth" angle with Dragon Balls being the reactors for their starships or something equally gay like that.

I am officially behind this project 100%.

I used to be a DBZ fanatic, so it still has a special place in my heart. Like many things that are done in alternate media, I am skeptical about the project, but am stoked because it could be interesting if done right... for me anyway.
I haven't seen the old DB live action, but I've heard of it. I should check that out sometime.

I don't really like DBZ, a couple of friends did so I've seen a few episodes. It just seemed trite.
However, that creative team and Spike is a powerhouse of awesome. If they change everything DBZ I won't care. Actually who does care? CHANGE IT! Make it in America during the 50s! Or underwater.

Well, DBZ is loosely based on an old legend which I am too lazy to look up. It's also somewhat based on Superman.
The original Dragon Ball series was a lot better. The story was paced better and it was a lot more comedy-oriented. In DBZ, you'd have battles that literally lasted 14 episodes.

It's based on Saiyuuki. (Journey to the West), iirc.
And I agree. People always think that DB and DBZ is the same thing, and that just pisses me off.

Yeah, its based on journey to the west. And I must agree, I did find the original more enjoyable only because it was sillier and didnt take itself so.... seriously. I dont think thats the right word but its the only word that comes to mind.
Either way, w/Stephen Chow helping out, this might actually end up being decent.
BTW: Stephen Chow has a live action version of journey to the west already in 2 parts. Here are the amazon links: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000K6WLOW/ref=wl_it_dp?ie=UTF8&coliid=IIOFH7EHWW2J2&colid=2FZM1TBKZUZ9A

Less screaming people and rippling muscles, which is a plus.

This is great news, but it's a little late. How long has it been since the series ended?

You're talking about the one where Goku had plastic hair, and Bulma had a cheesy looking wig, right?
I have high hopes for this movie, it could be a very entertaining movie if handled correctly.
On a side note, I have high hopes for the Speed Racer movie as well.

There is only one way this movie could be any good: if they make it fun.
No one is going to take it seriously, so drop any pretense of being serious. The fans might complain, but one thing the I've learned about anime fans is, they always complain. You could give them what they want, and they'll bitch about it being the exact polar opposite of what the wanted, that the movie is the Antichrist, etc. If they make the movie an excuse to show two guys fighting, I could live with it. If they try to turn it into another aborted disaster at philosophy like they did with The Matrix, it will suck, and it will suck bad.

The show itself was kinda not serious anyway, so you would just be preserving the premise by keeping it light and silly.
Who will play Master Roshi?

Not in any episode a friend of mine forces me to watch. There's usually something annoying going on, planets being destroyed, innocent people being mass murdered, and other such things. And lots of people saying, "Gr! He's so powerful!"
