I'm enjoying Neverwinter Nights 2 right now, although that is a year old. Also, it's a bit too linear, and I'm no fan of D&D rules - especially in a storyline that hampers you if you're not some sort of fighter (I always prefer thief characters or Mana fueled mages - a la Sierra rpgs). The expansion just came out a few weeks ago though.
Anyway, it's a solid choice if you have any interest in crpg's.

Garry's Mod is pretty cool. Do you like building stuff?
Stuff like my Mexican Jumping Bean car?
Or Dynamite Puncher Extendo Tank?
How about the ShitCar?
We had a destruction derby with all sorts of vehicles last night. We made up some rules and decided that we'd all weld explosive barrels to the back of our cars for a target. The last person with a barrel wins. Usually every round ended in awesome ways, with everyone's barrel exploding, but that's because it's more fun to do a suicide match than actually try to win.
Later in the game we decided to make cars out of wood. Wood cars are spectacular because they explode when they crash with enough force, sending wheels and chunks flying everywhere. Thanks to the duplicator tool in Gmod, you can make a complex, awesome vehicle out of wood, quickly save it in memory, then have fun destroying the shit out of it with impunity, because as soon as it breaks, you can spawn another one in.
Here was my car. I called him "Caterpillar" because he looked like the guys from Mario World. I also called him Optimus Prime because he was a semi truck.
This was my friend's box car.
Sadly I didn't get any shots of the destruction. Maybe next time.
Anyway, if you like building ridiculous shit such as forts to defend against zombie outbreaks, awesome vehicles, flying machines, or just funny scenes:
...then I suggest you pick up Gmod.

Overlord is a blast to play through at least once. and if you like your FPS's you would be insane not to get Call of Duty 4!

I agree on Oregon Trail, but I would much prefer The Incredible Machine. I think I've said that several times, but I'll say it again.
THE INCREDIBLE MACHINE!!!!!!!

Oregon Trail needs to be reborn as an FPS. I can see it now...
the back of the imaginary game box I see in my head wrote: |
You are Farmer John, a poor Virginian sharecropper who dreamed of moving his family to a better life out west. That was plan, anyway. But the plan didn't work out so well...
After a failed attempt to caulk your wagon, you are the sole survivor of your family. Your supply situation is grim. You have nothing left but your gun, 80 bullets, two sets of clothing, and a wagon axle. Now you must survive the grim and untamed wilds of the American frontier. Fight bears, rabbits, squirrels, and bison, and feast upon their remains for sustenance. Battle savage indians whose land you unwittingly intrude upon. Murder other families and take their supplies as your own. And square off those miserable arrogant bankers who taunted you in Independence, Missouri in a thrilling showdown on the Willamette River. Oh yeah, and try not catch dysentery. |

I reccomend taking a trip down memory lane and play mechwarrior 2, mech 2 mercs, and mechwarrior 3 (warning. mech 2 refuses to run on anything past windows 95. )

Well if it's a FPS on the PC, it has to be Half-Life. And when i say Half-Life, there are a ton of games, sold or download able that work off the engine. It's like a System all on it's own.

I suggest checking out the feature mods or HL mods in general, there are some kick ass ones off the old Half-Life engine like They Hunger and Heart of Evil. And the Half Life 2 engine is chugging new ones out as we speak however, like Murdar has pointed out, Garry's Mod is the top HL 2 Mod and hours of insane fun.

Can't believe I forgot. Get The Specialists, it's another Half-Life mod (for HL1). If you're a fan of action movies, pick this up. Shooting, kung-fu, bullet-time, etc. It's all there. Also gets points for one of the only successful implementations of bullet-time in multiplayer gaming.

I thought of something that I'm going to make first-thing: A pirate ship on wheels with cannons that shoot live chickens.
