A few months ago I started a "Foreign Rip-Off" movie night with several of my friends. Every couple of weeks we get together and, with copious amounts of snacks, watch a foreign rip-off of [usually] an American film. Movies we've done so far:

Sangharsh (aka Indian Silence of the Lambs)
Dünyayi kurtaran adam (aka Turkish Star Wars)
Dünyayi kurtaran adam oglu (aka Turkish Star Wars 2)
Future Cops (Chinese Street Fighter II knock-off)
Fight Club: Members Only (aka Indian Fight Club)

Next up is Brazilian Star Wars and after that, Ator (Italian Conan: The Barbarian).

My question is: can you name some other good prospects and/or favorites? I'm sure Indian Superman will be on the list before long.

Yeah, Turkish Star Trek should definitely go on the list. It might have come earlier, but I wanted to take a nice long break from Turkish flicks. That stuff hurts your brain.

Another one I already own just occurred to me: Time of the Apes (aka Japanese Planet of the Apes).

Don't forget The Final Sacrifice, the Canadian version of Indiana Jones!

Zinda, the bollywood ripoff of Oldboy.

note: It helps if you've seen Oldboy.

I hope you'll forgive the bump, but I thought this might be of interest to connoisseurs of awful movies here on the forums. Below the list of foreign rip-offs we've watched to date. Some of these are pretty awesome:

Sangharsh (aka Indian Silence of the Lambs)
Dünyayi kurtaran adam (aka Turkish Star Wars)
Dünyayi kurtaran adam oglu (aka Turkish Star Wars 2)
Future Cops (Chinese Street Fighter II knock-off)
Fight Club: Members Only (aka Indian Fight Club)
Os Trapalhões na Guerra dos Planetas (Brazilian Star Wars)
Ator: The Fighting Eagle (Italian Conan: The Barbarian)
Time of the Apes (Japanese Planet of the Apes)
From Beijing With Love (Chinese James Bond - technically a spoof by Stephen Chow)
King Kong Escapes (Japanese King Kong)

and tomorrow will feature...

Italian Terminator 2!

EDIT: What also makes Foreign Rip-Off Movie Nights so enjoyable is our "B" features. It's usually a movie or movie series, still technically foreign, but not necessarily abiding by the "rip-off" rules. Among the flicks we've watched for these have been Ninja Death I-III (pure awesome), Ator II-IV (additionally awesome), and Yonggary, an English-language remake of 1967 Korean movie of the same name (which was in itself a rip-off of Godzilla), directed by D-War helmer Hyung-rae Shim.

And tomorrow... (NSFW):

Ninja: The Protector

Oh snap!!

Included on the Terminator 2 DVD was a trailer for a movie called Robowar, a blatant rip-off of Predator. But here's the best part:

It stars Reb "Big McLargeHuge" Brown!!

That villian would be a lot more intimidating if it didn't babble like the computer from Wargames got shoved into a washing machine.

Did that trailer remind anyone else of Rambo? There were so many scenes that just screamed First Blood, you know?

I've seen that Korkusuz clip before and wanted to track down a DVD for movie night, but I haven't been able to find a single copy of it, subtitled or otherwise.

But man, gotta love that bazooka.

Two nights ago we watched perhaps the ultimate foreign rip-off movie. A movie so inexplicable and obscure that I may be the only person in America with a copy of it:

Nigerian Titanic.

It steals footage from James Cameron's Titanic (a la Turkish Star Wars) and inserts it into this shot-on-video version made for Nigerian audiences. Incredible. I got my copy from a professor of African Studies in Europe. Shocked

Holy crap that may be the most amazingly awful thing I have ever seen.
