Where to begin? Well, I went to watch Across the Universe with 2 friends tonight... we all really enjoyed it. Personally, I absolutely loved it! The movie captures the cultural revolution of the 60s just perfectly - it just strengthened my desire live that era now! The movie only opened here tonight, but to my surprised the theatre was filled to capacity! Honestly, though I knew that I'd enjoy the film, I figured that it wouldn't bear such popularity among the general public.

The cast was just superb! I find it's quite a rarety to see a cast of actors/actresses portraying characters very close to their true age. But, Evan Rachel Wood, being only 20 years old, played an 18-19 year old... and she did so beautifully! I couldn't imagine a better person to play Lucy. She was naive, innocent, and almost plain - the same as I would have described an average female in that era. I was quite impressed by her singing as well. For those who don't know, "The majority of the songs were recorded live on-set and were not dubbed with studio recordings in post-production. Evan Rachel Wood's version of "If I Fell" is a live recording, and was successfully completed on the first take" (wikipedia/imdb) I find that pretty fucking impressive!

Jim Sturgess was fabulous!!! He portrayed the most amazing awe-struck foreigner. I'd never seen him in film before this, but I'm convinced that he's the next Orlando Bloom! His character continued to draw our eyes toward the film, he just has an amazing ability to guise your attention! You could really feel his songs, throughout the film.. Not to mention, he was incredibly sexy too!

The storyline was very well thought, with plenty of historical references - also a ton of Beatles references. Sure the story involved the required romantic twist, but I don't feel as though it went over the top. I really felt like I was living the 60s... it was really very genuine.

All in all, one of my favorite movies!

And to complete the night, and pay homage to the film, we got really high afterwards!

Heard it was good, but good or bad, I will not pay 5 bucks to see a musical.

5 Bucks? Where the hell do you live? One ticket here would cost a little over ten bucks with nothing else, christ. Also, I usually don't like musicals, love the beatles, don't think the movie looked very god and yeah, so I will probably get it when it comes out on DVD.

Its been a while since i've gone to the movies, and when I did go it was five bucks for the matinee.

Tish, you spelled Beatles wrong, come one. Anyway, I just saw it and I was floored. It was absolutely amazing. It is exactly what anyone could have asked for out of a Beatles musical.

ross you spelled "on" wrong, "come one", I thought you were better than that. J/K Singing in the Rain is the only Musical that matters.

IDK man, I like South Park the movie. West Side Story of course. Grease, depends on my mood. Disney movies of course. But, I agree, Singing in the Rain is an awesome movie.

Hmmm... what other musicals are there? I'm sure there are others but I cant recall any at this point in time.

I'm probably gonna see it this weekend, but from what I've seen it looks like they killed "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"
It used to be that the guitar was "wailing" and in the clip I saw it's just something that's there for the sake of being there Evil

If your talking contemporary Musicals I'm not very in the know, just Hair Spray Moulin Rouge, Chicago, and Rent is all I can think off, as recent. However Old ones i've seen way to many because my ex was a musical FREAK. My Fair Lady, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Oklahoma, Fiddler on the Roof, Sound of Music, I'm gonna stop there before my masculinity comes into question.

Chicago is actually from the 70s. Jerry Orbach, God rest his soul, was the origional Billy Flynn. Yes, decective Lennie Brisco from Law and Order used to sing and dance!

My favorite musical is The Music Man. I've always wanted to play Harold Hill. Not that I'm gay or anything... Smile

sorry for the bump, but i just saw this movie like 10 seconds ago and i give it thumbs up.

the story was ok. a little trite but whatev. the music was amazing of course and it had a small part for Bono. what else do you need?!
