I love how Best Buy and such, try to charge you $60 for a 6 ft HDMI cable. If you search really hard, (Read: type "HDMI cable" into Google.) You will find that you can buy 6ft - 25 ft gold plated HDMI cables for $5-$12.
And, only idiots buy the $200 "Product Protection Plan" or whatever the sales people are calling it that week. If you are buying a name brand piece of electronic equipment, it's already got a manufacturer's warranty on it, and you are just paying extra for something you already have.

The trouble is, he's one of the idiots too. I mostly meant it's dumb when I see big TV's hooked up wrong.
I second the Zune purchase...200$ for 30GB VS what, 8GB? Not a hard choice.

Best Buy PSP or PRPs (warranties) are the worst - I repeat worst - piece of bullshit known to man. They claim that you're buying a 3 year warranty, for example, but neglect to inform you that it's not valid until the manufacturers warranty ends. I've heard through the grapevine that the PRP that they sell for iPods is only valid from 1 replacement, if it only lasts 1 month after they fix it, too bad for you. They apparently tell people that they'll refund any shipping costs you incur within the 1st year, but when you submit your receipt to their head office, they will "assess it" for a "possible" refund.
Not to mention, why the fuck would you want a Best Buy/Futureshop warranty? They don't know anything about the products they're selling, aside from what's already clearly written on the box! You can't bring your iPod in there and expect the "geek" to know any troubleshooting! Here's the generic responses I've heard "The harddrive is gone, you're gonna have to call Apple", "We don't help you in the first year, but you'll get a nice shiny new one from Apple", "Yeah, we see this same problem all the time, call Apple", etc. etc. etc.... I'm personally convinced that they're trained to lie through their teeth.
Save yourself some real trouble and get the APP with Apple... you get a 2nd year of coverage on hardware failures, it includes shipping and phone support... you won't get customer support with Best Buy. What they also don't tell you with Best Buy is that they send the iPod in to have it fixed... at some store warehouse assuming not with Apple parts, since Apple doesn't sell iPod parts, and it can take up to 8 weeks for the repair!!! Apple guarantees it in less than 2 weeks!!!
You'd seriously have to pay me to take the Best Buy PRP/PSP because that store does nothing but give me a headache... every single time I go in.

I would buy an iPod if I got a lifetime free replacement on the battery.

This 1.1.1 patch is apparently going to be the "Red Ring of Death" for the iPhone.
Now, some upset customers are calling for a class-action lawsuit against Apple for releasing the patch and bricking some iPhones.
Apple's forums have been on fire with complaints (which have been removed) claiming that Apple's actions were malicious and intentional.
While it sucks when you end up with an expensive brick, this is what happens when you hack products. You don't see anyone suing Sony over bricked PSPs, though to be fair, those are far less common.

I have no sympathy for those who decided to go the extra mile and hack their phones. Read the warranty, Apple is not responsible for damages that result in misuse or unauthorized modifications (paraphrased).

What would it take for you to part with your iPod Nano?
Not enough room to fit more songs (and you don’t wanna get rid of the ones you have already)?
Decided you don’t like the color?
How about being engulfed in flames?!?!?
Well, that’s just what happened to a Douglasville, GA man when his Nano burst into flames at work due to the lithium ion battery…the same type of battery under recall for setting laptops on fire.
And guess where he works?
At a kiosk in Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport!
"If TSA had come by and seen me smoking, they could have honestly thought I was a terrorist," said victim Danny Williams. "I look down and I see flames coming up to my chest. I'm still kind of freaked out that after only a year and a half my iPod caught fire in my pocket."
Turns out a glossy piece of paper in his pocket shielded him from being burned.
Williams said Apple wants him to send his iPod back and they've promised to replace it after Williams' mother called Channel 2 news.

I'm not going to get into any details, but it wouldn't take a call to the media for Apple to replace a defective iPod.

The "iPhone Elite" super-awesome hacking team has come up with a downgrade method that will remove the 1.1.1 update and fix some iPhones that were bricked.
The 19-step update that really requires that the user know what they're doing should drop the firmware back down to 1.0.2, which should fix most botched 1.1.1 updates.
The lesson at the end of the day is: don't hack your iPhone! If you don't want AT&T don't get an iPhone. If you want a ton of 3rd party applications and can't wait for Apple to allow them, get a Windows Mobile or Palm OS smartphone.

Get on board, everyone! It's time to sue Apple and I got the bandwagon all ready!
This week's lawsuit comes from the California Center for Environmental Health, which is claiming that the iPhone contains harmful "phthalate" contents.
These "phthalates," which are not made up, are illegal according to California Proposition 65.
The CEH, however, hasn't even confirmed that the iPhone contains any of these naughty chemicals.
They are working off of the assumption that they are in the iPhone based on the findings of Greenpeace. Greenpeace found compounds and chemicals in the iPhone that are going to be outlawed in 2008. The iPhone currently meets the strictest standards and Apple maintains that they will remove these compounds by 2008.
The CEH has begun testing for phthalates and expects to have results within 60 days. They just wanted to sue now so they would be the first.
