Who else thinks that the n64 Smash Bros. is way better than Melee?

LOL. I like em both, but Melee just had a better polish if you will. More characters, more stages, better balance between characters.

OK, here goes...
What the FUCK are you smoking?!! What's more appealing about the original? What, you have something against more characters, better gameplay, and better graphics? Is the addition of new features while still retaining all the old ones from the original what's shitting in your coffee? Is it the fact that the game is the BEST SELLING GAMECUBE GAME EVER?!! What? Tell me what your problem with the game is? The only thing I can see is that the gameplay in the original is slower than in Melee. And if you can't handle the small ratcheting-up in speed, then you fucking suck at the game and should give your copy to someone who can use it better, like an AMPUTEE!!!
Nothing against the original game. It was awesome, but Melee is all of that awesomeness X100.

Hurray! More characters! Nevermind that many characters aren't that well balanced (Bowser and Mewtwo for example), or dumbed down from the last game (Kirby, for example, was beast-rape-kill in the original, but he was brought down hard in Melee). Gameplay was improved indeed, as well as graphics, and it did retain the original 1 player mode in the form of Classic Mode. What does this mean? It means that you can get your ass handed to you by team Captain Falcon in the broken Classic Mode and look pretty doing it, as well as give a good show with better gameplay. I don't even notice much of a speed change between the original and Melee now that you mention it, so don't bust out with bullshit like that. As for being the best selling Gamecube game, that's not saying much considering that the platform had like maybe 20 good games on it at most (Granted, I proudly own most of them).
Melee was a great game, but anyone who can't tell that the original is still better is just blind.

Maybe you just suck. If you're losing to Team Captain Falcon, you got gaming problems, buddy. Mewtwo as a character sucks ass, and the only thing Bowser has going for him is his SMB3 ground pound attack. And so what if they nerfed Kirby, he was a bit overpowered in the first game. And like you said, it had better gameplay. This means that either:
A. Your GameCube controller is broken
B. You bite balls at Super Smash Bros.
I actually found the original harder. This might have something to do with the fact that I was in the fourth grade when I played it, but this is besides the point. My point is that Melee has everything that the original had, and more. And there's nothing wrong with that. Maybe you're just too stuck in the N64 era to give the game a chance. Don't get me wrong, I love the original. There's just no point in playing that now that I have Melee. The same thing will probably happen when Brawl comes out.

Char wins! Flawless Victory!! Fatality!!!
I prefer many games off the n64 more then most Game cube games. I have to say Melee was the one GameCube game i liked more then it's N64 counter part. I busted my ass to unlock the new characters and option and it was well worth it.

I play Melee at least every other week with my friends and enjoy it. I just enjoy the original more because it has better character balance, which is my main beef with Melee. It has nothing to with how good at it I am (I used to suck at Strider, but I always played it when I had the chance and loved it). Don't sit here and try invalidate my arguments by telling me I suck at a I actually kick some good ass at.

I played the N64 smash like twice in my life is the thing, so I only prefer Melee because I'm a casualfag. Besides, anyone taking Smash Bros seriously as a fighting game needs to lighten up.

Let's see...I liked the n64 version a lot. It was great. Melee was also great but in terms of my own personal enjoyment I'd take the original over melee.
Before we attack me for sucking at games or whatever...I've beaten most of the hard shit on earth...

OK, fine. I like Melee more. I don't get your character balance argument, though.

Well, it does feel as though Melee favors the faster characters whereas the original SSB you could kick ass w/anyone. I mean, I can still do decently in Melee w/DK or Ganondorf but I suck w/Bowser but in SSB I can go random confidently w/out getting worried too much. I still go random in SSBM but I cringe when I get mewtwo or bowser and I forget who else since I havent played in ages. Man I miss both games.

I really don't get the character balance argument either. Ness and Jigglypuff are completely broken in the original game... they weren't balanced until the second game.
When it comes to Melee, I would say that it has:
Better character balance
A better roster
Better level design
A much more satisfying 1P mode
And just more depth overall
I absolutely loathed the first game. The gameplay was shallow and rather broken, and the character selection was too small and too obvious. SSBM is a way better game.

This feels like the old Halo 1 vs Halo 2 argument (before Halo 3 came out) where people were in one camp or another. So, we basically have to agree to disagree, or something.

Indeed. I like this strategy better than accusing each other of smoking crack.

Yeah. Although the first Smash Bros. was the epitome of awesomeness to my 4th grade mind.
