Well it's October and my favorite holiday, Halloween is approaching. One of my favorite things about Halloween is finding song that go with the holiday atmosphere. Over the years I've heard and collected many songs that could fit the "Halloween spirit" category. To count down the Halloween season, I'm going to enter in a list of Halloween songs I'm sure some of you know and some you won't and add it my thoughts as to how they can be considered "Halloween songs." If you can think of any songs that fit the Halloween spirit, go ahead and post them. Come on, Feed my Frankenstein!

For my first entries I'm going to put in the most common song I can think of:

1) Monster Mash – Bobby Picket
2) Werewolves of London – Warren Zevon
3) Thriller – Michael Jackson
4) Bad Moon A Rising – CCR
5) Ghostbusters – Ray Parker Jr.
6) Highway to Hell – AC/DC
7) Frankenstein – Edgar Winters Band

These seven are the no brainers.
1) has been a staple of Halloween since the fifties. The rest can be halloween songs because they relate to the supernatural atmosphere.
2) concerns the well know beast, the werewolf and has a catchy piano number that's hard to forget.
3) Only MJ can make a pop song about the dead rising from the grave and make it a pop classic.
4) This one is open to interpretation. The very rhythm of the song fits the fall season and the talk of the coming danger could represent either supernatural terror or the coming harshness of winter or it could be a metaphor for political uncertainty (which is what CCR was going for, i think.)
5) Come on, it's Ghostbusters. How could this not be a Halloween song?
6) Hell and Halloween have often been associated with each other. AC/DC has a satanic rock style which is perfect for Halloween.
7) Like the werewolf, Frankenstein has been associated with Halloween since the old Black and White movie made him popular. The song itself has a unique style unmatched by any other rock instrumental. Plus, I can't help but picture Frankie rocking out to this song.

This is only the tip of the iceberg. I've got plenty more to post later.

To be Continued . . . Twisted Evil

Mayhem-Deathcrush
Misfits-Halloween, but just about anything with Danzig would work
Venom-Welcome to Hell
Death-Zombie Ritual
Celtic Frost-Circle of the Tyrants (or the cover by Obituary)
Obituary-Chopped in Half
Cannibal Corpse-Hammer Smashed Face
Slayer-Raining Blood
Darkthrone-Transilvanian Hunger
Blue Oyster Cult-(Don't Fear) The Reaper
Children of Bodom-Hate Me! (mostly for the break in the middle. Creepy)
White Zombie-Electric Head, Part 2 (The Ecstasy) (or just about anything by WZ)
Rob Zombie-Dragula

I'd say all of these fit the ideal of Halloween. And damn you Syd, I was going to say Helloween...

Really Syd, you just had to take that one from us.

Anything on the "Halloween Hootenanny" CD is good but "I Drink Blood" by Rocket From the Crypt is one of the best.
Madhouse - Anthrax
The Bell Witch, Nightmare, The Oath, Come to the Sabbath, Evil - Mercyful Fate
Come to the Sabbath - Black Widow (More of a funny song than a Halloween one, but whatever)

Here's the video for the Black Widow song. It's some funny stuff.

That was going to be in my next entry. Along with "Sweet Dreams" by the Eurythmics, which has nothing to do with halloween but the classic techno beats give it a haunting feel which is perfect for halloween.

I might as well list more songs but i'm not going to talk about them, much:

Sweet Dreams - Eurythmics
Welcome to my nightmare - Alice Cooper
Horror Movie - Skyhooks
Ghost Riders in the sky - there are many versions but Johnny Cash's version is the best.
Haunted House - Ray Stevens (or Gene Simmons [no not the KISS Gene Simmons)
Creature From The Black Lagoon - Dave Edmunds
Ein Seltener Vogel - Einsturzende Neubauten (i heard this one during an episode of CSI vegas. It's some german industrial band but the song itself is creepy enough to be a halloween song.)
Vincent Price Blues - ZZ Top (off one of their obscure album but it is awesome and worth looking for)
Clap For The Wolfman - Guess Who
Itsy Bitsy Spider - Joey DeLuxe (from 8 legged freaks sound track)
Magic - Mick Smiley (from the ghostbusters sound track)
tubular bells - mike oldfield (from the Exorcist Sound track)
Eye of the Zombie - John Fogerty
Pet Sematary - Ramones
Little Red Riding Hood - Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs
Wild Thing - The Troggs
rebel yell - billy idol
Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) - David Bowie
Hotel California - The Eagles
Werewolf - Five Man Electrical Band
When the Night Comes - Joe Cocker
Rain On The Scarecrow - John Cougar Mellencamp
god's gonna cut you down - Johnny Cash
living after midnight - judas priest

from the experimental band Pere Ubu:
Heart of Darkness and My Dark Age

Cream:
Strange Brew and White Room

Doors:
People are Strange, Riders on the Storm, Break on Thought, The End

AC/DC:
Hell's Bells
If you want blood you got it
Shook me all night long

The Who:
Boris the Spider and Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde

ELO:
Evil Woman, Fire on High

KISS:
God of Thunder, Creatures of the night

Alan parsons project: The Album: Tales of Mystery and Imagination Has many good songs that fit Halloween, since they are based off of works by Edger Allen Poe

Meatloaf: Bat out of hell (the first one)

I'm going to stop before i give myself a cramp in my brain. All these songs are good for halloween and the list shall go on.

I just heard "Clowns Will Eat Me" by Alice Cooper, it's a pretty good one for Halloween.
