Saturday Morning Shows can be the most awesome thing to a kid. I'm sure some of you remember the heyday of Fox Saturday morning: Eek, Bobby's World, Spiderman, Power Rangers and X-Men just to name a few.

The weekend has passed and I manage to see what my once favorite time slots are doing now. Things have changed since i was a kid. It seems like most of these new shows are crap but that could be i'm older now. Fox is still going strong with UPN as it's rival (still called the WB Saturday line up, despite WB is no-longer.) NBC seems a little PBS now and ABC blows thanks to Disney.

There are some shows that are worth staying on the Channel for, Like Johnny Test. It reminds me of Dexter and has its moments. What amazes me about shows today compared to the old days is the pacing. Most cartoons move at a much quicker pace then they use to. I watched an old episode of Real Ghostbusters then some of todays shows and I couldn't believe the difference. The animation style, the jokes, the pace, a lot has changed.

The one thing that confuses me is the badly dubbed anime. What confuses me is I like watching it (because it's anime) yet the voice acting and editing really butcher any enjoyment but i still watch it with some degree of enjoyment.

The new Turtles show is probably the best show on Saturday mornings. It's the closes thing to a animated drama (like the old X-Men) you can find on network TV.

I was wondering what thoughts you have on the subject of Saturday morning shows: Past, Present and Future . . .

God, I remember the good days (well, for me) of Saturday morning cartoons. I'd get up and watch Kids WB, shit like X-Men: Evolution, Pokemon, Zeta, Cubix, and the like. Then Pokemon got gay after the first season, and they canceled basically everything good, and replaced it with bad anime and garbage. I eventually said "fuck it", and stopped waking up at 7am just to be disappointed.

In the summer I would tape my entire Saturday morning line-up as I watched it, and then I'd watch it again every morning for the rest of the week. The time that Captain N played the same episode two weeks in a row was the worst fortnight ever.

I can't really remember what I used to watch though. Real Ghostbusters, Captain N, Captain Planet, Alf, Popples, My Pet Monster, Putnam's Prairie Emporium, 5-4-3-2-Run!, Cowboys of Moo Mesa, TMNT are just a few that come to mind.

Then there were the weekday cartoons, Transformers, Bravestarr, Gem and the Holograms, Teddy Ruxpin, Inspector Gadget, and the live action shows: Mr. Dressup, Sesame Street, Under the Umbrella Tree, Fred Penner, Friendly Giant.

I watched a lot of tv.

Ever since the CW became an official network, there's no such thing as Saturday morning cartoons like there used to be where I am. What used to show stuff like Yu-Gi-Oh, The Batman, etc. is now nothing but shows run by local car dealers, and paid programming. Also because of the market I'm in I was never able to catch FoxBox stuff (however, for a while I could catch a feed of most of the programming on UPN Sunday mornings) because it overlapped with the former Kids WB.

Yah, i remember that line up and the newer x-men was not as cool as the old one but it was still awesome. And i agree about Pokemon, after Season 1 it all went down hill. I mean, none of that Orange League Shit had to do with the game and figures Ash would win OL and suck at everything else . . . only in a filler season . . . a filler season Shocked

Add Megaman NT Warrior and Yugioh to that list and that's me too.

I forgot about those two. NT Warrior rocked and I was pissed when they cancelled it (and then un-cancelled it, and then cancelled it again), and Yugioh was pretty cool. I kind of stopped watching after the whole "Seal of Aurichauchous" shit.

You've listed many of my favs. The Tick, geeze that was hilarious in it's prime. I'm looking at your Disney show list (awesome-ness) and . . . what the hell happened? Why is Disney not showing reruns of those on Saturday mornings anymore or at least remakes. Those shows are better then the crap now because the old shows at least sticked to Disney's roots. And looking at this list, I realized something . . . i think the generation of those shows was spoiled. Today's generation is getting crapped on.

I may bash network dubbed animes but Digimon was cool. The first season was by far the best because season 2 just sucked. Devimon was the best villain, I mean any guy who dresses like he's going to an Ozzy Concert is #1 on the best villains list. Plus he was hardcore, tried to kill the kids while they were sleeping, but 4kids didn't show that.

1. Digimon aired on weekdays.

2. I remember Bandai not censoring that kind of stuff. I liked how they kept the character's Japanese names but gave them initals (like T.K.)

I have to agree w/a lot of these picks. I cant really say you missed much in fact. Tiny Toons maybe, even though it was just a rehashing of old Looney Tunes cartoons made w/younger characters. Freakazoid! was awesome though. The Lobe is one of the coolest characters ever.

EDIT: although it wasnt a cartoon, I do miss watching Beakman's world and Bill Nye the science guy.

I lost track after Marik turned to evil Marik and Joe said: "I'm going to file this under not good." Has anyone seen the original first season of Yu-Gi-Oh? The one 4kids didn't bother dubbing and Kaiba had green hair. It's pretty badass.

It was a weekend show for my locate channel and they aired the reruns on weekdays.

Bandai license some bizzare games (Monster Party for example) but they do know how to dub anime.

Actually, that was the second Yugioh series. We got the third one. There was also one before that, and it barely focused on the card game. </giant nerd>

I remember I taped Sonic whenever I had to miss it for Soccer. I also watched X-Men, but never weekly, so the arcs never made sense. Sam & Max was on Fox Saturdays for awhile. Life with Louie, Bobby's World. The Tick was great. I remember I watched Beetle Borgs for awhile (and remembering it now makes me realize that the Jay Leno character was a precursor of Lorne later on "Angel"). And the last Saturday morning show I remember watching was Kim Possible, but to be fair I caught it mostly during the week on the Disney channel. Now I just kinda sleep in on Saturdays whenever I can. I have no idea what's on.

I was a huge TMNT and Garfield fan way back when... usually I just watched Garfield to get to TMNT.

Does anyone remember Dinosaucers? Was that a Saturday morning show or am I just warping it from a different time during the week? In any case, I dug that show too. Allosaur was the fucking man.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.

In the LA area, it was on weekdays at 4:30. I remember having to wait for it to come on and being all pissed off. Then I would watch it, and send haterays at the ankylosaurus on the bad side. He was such a little cellbitch.

The most mindnumbingly dumb minute of television I ever saw was from an episode of Pokemon. I don't entire know what the episode's plot was, as I was flipping channels, but it went something like this:

Ash's Bulbasaur leaves his room in the middle of the night to go into some weird garden. Pikachu wakes up and sees Bulbasaur leaving. He confronts him in the cartoon and they have an argument. But, as everyone knows, most Pokemon can only say their own name and variants thereof. So the conversation went like this:

Pikachu! Pika pika.
Bulba! Bulbasaur Bulbasaur Bulbasaur!
Pikachu! Pik-a-chu!
Buuuuulbasaur!

And so on and so forth for like a minute. Afterwards, I slit my wrists.
