The 80s look was an extension of 70s glam though, particularly David Bowie, T-Rex, and The New York Dolls.
And not every band did. Well, not every band did the make-up anyway. Even Maiden wore spandex. And there are some pretty embarassing photos of Slayer too.

I just hate how the vision of the future for the decades went. The 80s imagined a bleak as hell future, the 90s saw a future that was closer to our own, and in the 2000s the future is nothing but CG special effects. We need another Reagan to inspire more dark sci-fi.

There's worse ones of Overkill and Pantera. Overkill's are only a bit worse than slayers, but Pantera's 80's photos take the cake for "glammed up". I don't think Anthrax ever wore spandex or makeup.

Cyberpunks not only done, but its low grade final fantasy cousin steampunk is running out of...steam too.
We need a newer better punk.

I like the "Star Wars/Trek" future. It seems more plausible. I don't like the "Neon" future, like in the 5th element.

That would fall under the "Star Wars/Trek" future. I guess I could call it "Industrial" future.

Ha ha, 80s Pantera was awesome, back when Dimebag Darrell was known as Diamond Darrell. I actually found some of the mp3s by accident back in college. I was searching on a P2P network for the song "Love Rocket" by Danger Kitty, the fictitious 80s metal played by Metal Shop in those credit card commercials. I did find it, but also found a bunch of other songs that claimed to be by Danger Kitty. I eventually found out they were the early Pantera albums.
Pantera never really got away from those glam roots. They toured with Skid Row in '96, albeit after the release of Skid Row's heaviest album, and Dimebag always said that if Roth and Van Halen ever reunited, he wanted to open for them.

Being a fan of Pantera and a user of Dean Guitars, I should point out that Dime used Dean Guitars for most of Pantera's careers. I think he didn't use them on The Great Southern Trendkill, the Live album, and Reinventing the Steel. I think he used Dean for Damageplan's album.
Felt I should bring that up. Pantera was a huge influence on me, and Dime is the reason I picked up the Dean in the first place. I will say "Walk" is overrated, though. Still, in my opinion, they were the best metal band of the 90's by far, and one of the greatest bands of all time.
/end praise.

Don't forget Rex being named "Rexx Rocker", and Vinnie in spandex. Yecch. Those were before the Phil came in, God bless him.

Madonna and Britney Spears face beheading threat

Madonna and Britney Spears have been targeted as the spreaders of "Satanic culture."
The aggressive comments were launched by spokesman and senior leader of Palestinian terror group the Popular Resistance Committees, a group based in the Gaza Strip and responsible for the increase in shootings and bombings in the region.
Muhammad Abdel-Al is quoted in new book Schmoozing With Terrorists: From Hollywood To the Holy Land Jihadists Reveal Their Global Plans--To A Jew! attacks the two pop stars, labelling them "prostitutes."
Abdel-Al rants, "If I meet these whores I will have the honor--I repeat, I will have the honor--to be the first one to cut the heads off Madonna and Britney Spears if they will keep spreading their Satanic culture against Islam."
He continued, "If these two prostitutes keep doing what they are doing, we of course will punish them."
The comments have been made just as Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie prepare to celebrate the Jewish New Year with 2,000 Kabbalah followers in Israel. |
