A lot of the time in elementary school, if it was raining we could go to the computer lab for recess. They would give you your choice of game (Oregon Trail, Reader Rabbit, etc.) And, then the teacher pretty much sat in the corner and read her book, and didn't pay any attention. So, I would smuggle in other games (Such as Spy vs Spy, Top Gun, etc.) and amaze everyone with the fact that I was playing REAL games, instead of the ed-u-tainment ones they were stuck with. |
Surely you're not besmirching the good name of Oregon Trail!

The best part of Oregon Trail was putting swear names on the gravestones

Or going hunting and killing every animal but only carrying back 100 lbs of meat. Then having your teacher yell at you for killing unnecessarily, when in reality thats what early settlers did, kill everything to the point of extinction. Ah... good times

Man, I feel like I live in the dark ages or something. I still had a Discman until late last year, when I finally caved in and bought a 1 GB Sandisk mp3 doohickey super cheap.
That being said, I mostly listen to music on my computer, and my mp3 player is generally used for RiffTrax. |
Two years ago in 7th grade I would smuggle in my portable tape player so I could listen to Grim REaper and Overkill during our tests.

iPod Shuffle holds 240 songs (1gb) - flash memory (skip proof) for $79...
iPod Nano 4gb (1000 songs... also can be used for photos and videos) - flash memory (skip proof) for $149...
 8gb (2000 songs/photos/videos) for $199...

The Nano isn't skip proof, or freeze proof (since it uses a hard drive. I've been using an RCA Lyra 256MB with a 1GB SD memory card in the back. It's only frozen on me once, and it never skipped. If you're looking for something that's going to be exposed to a lot of motion, get something with flash memory. You'll lose space, but it won't skip.

Nah, she only came over when we would start laughing, cause she would suspect we were screwing around or something. Most of the time we would laugh at the stupid things we put on the tombstones, and we would use the hunting as the scapegoat if you will.

We ALL avoided Oregon Trail at my school. We only played it when we had to. Why would all of us kids not want to play what was arguably the best educational game ever made?
Because we lived in Oregon City, OR. The End of The Oregon Trail, and the town reminded us of this fact everywhere. On signs, historic sites, the three gigantic covered wagons that make up the "End Of The Oregon Trail Interpretive Center." Stores and Diners all had the cleaver names such as the "Wagon Wheel." or the particularly cleaver "Inn of The Oregon Trail."

I'm not much of a PC gamer at all, but I would become one overnight if they released an Oregon Trail MMO that had PvP areas. I'd stock up on ammo and leave town, then shoot people's oxen and set their wagons on fire, and pillage my way to Oregon.

Oh, Bomberman, that reminds me. I'm not sure if you fixed the problem, but your monitor problem is caused by one of the pins of your VGA cable getting broken off.

So that's what it was... they weren't broken, but they were rusty.
Also the wire felt strange and thin at one place. Oh well, time to say goodbye to that.

I like better stuff now. Still metal though. Let's just say I've evolved in my metalness.

I have dibs on it. Well, if I can get the cash. If not, then I'll just buy the Halo 3 edition myself when I do have the cash.

The NANO does have a flash memory...
If you click on "iPod Nano" in the list of models you'll see that it is flash memory (and the 2nd and 3rd gen. are too):

Wrong. The first generation is flash memory. The second and third are HD.
