So, I went to watch Stardust last night, and I was pleasantly surprised. I half expected to watch some sort of generic fantasy film, with extravagant fight scenes, goblins, persons with insane magical powers, etc.... but what I found was quite the opposite.

This movie could easily have been classified as a fantasy/comedy, it was truly bizarre. I mean, my sides were sore I'd laughed some much! If you watch the trailer, you'd never suspect such humor to unfold!

Claire Danes, though this could easily go without saying, did an amazing job in this film. She epitomizes the role of the star. I could not have cast a better actress for the role. She seriously shined in the role of Yvaine, the fallen star... you could really feel her emotions throughout the film.

Charlie Cox = amazing! He plays the main character, Tristan, a young store boy. For a 24 year old kid with only a few films under his belt, let me tell you, you'd never be able to tell that he hasn't been doing this for 10 years! In the beginning, Tristan reminded me a lot of Harry Potter, with his nerdy/kiddish appearance, and social awkwardness. But, without saying too much, he definitely grows into his final role!

Robert De Niro surprised me a lot. I've never seen him in a comedy, so I kept reverting back to the last film I saw him in, which was Hide and Seek - not so much a comedy. De Niro was very convincing in his role as ship's captain, with a twist. It felt believable. And I guarantee many laughs throughout Tristan and Yvaine's adventure on the pirate ship.

I rate this film 9/10.

What about Michelle Pfeiffer?

Also, De Niro is a pretty good comedic actor. If you want to see him in a good comedy, forget about his cookie cutter comedies from the last ten years about Analyzing and Parents; watch The King of Comedy.

Go find an old movie called "Brazil" which is an extremely messed up movie by Terry Gilliam. DeNiro has a great cameo roll, where he is f'n hilarious.

I've never seen Taxi Driver, but there's a Malaysian movie called Perth that's said to be pretty similar, and I liked it a lot.

That's a little redundant. But yeah, Brazil is awesome. I have the Criterion box set, which also includes the incredibly butchered studio cut of the film.

I thought she was good, but kind of the same as she always is. I can't really describe it... she's just always the same. Maybe one-dimensional is the word? I dunno.

p.s. To whom it may concern: I like using color... get over it.
